The artifacts and history in the museum are rich with culture and the stories depicted in the videos were very compelling.I gasped, cried and cursed (under my breath) as I thought about how my ancestors were lying in chains in close knit quarters on the slave ship. This was an unforgettable experience for me and my son.

Of all of the States I drove through on my road trip this stop had to be the most significant. Every bit of information the mainstream museums leave out about black history is here. Rather than focusing on slavery this museum celebrates black achievement also. A must visit for adults and school aged kids to counteract the negative drivel portrayed by the media.••••EACHONE•TEACHONE••••Tap on my name or icon above and scroll down to see even more locations:700+ BLACK HISTORY ICONS.320+ CELEBRITY LOCATIONS..

The APEX Museum is a great museum to view black history and the history of black people and business all along Sweet Auburn. The admission price is very reasonable and the exhibits are expertly done. The replicas are great in my opinion. Finally, there is a hall of black inventors and their inventions, along with an exhibit of black women in STEM.

Great museum on black culture! I had the pleasure of discovering this little gem through one of the colleges that I do editorial work for that had students coming through for a road trip. Definitely worth a stop. They had a really great collection of woman in science that the students found to be a fresh breath of air as well!

I stopped in here when when in Downtown. APEX Museum offers a refined, accurate insight into African history before, during and after the transatlantic slave trade. If you know nothing about African and African American history and culture, you will learn plenty. The two films shown provide an interesting reflection on Auburn Avenue. The staff are very friendly and welcoming. The gift counter has some fantastic post cards. The owner has a grand vision for the future of APEX, once realised the space will be phenomenal.

The museum is very small and dated (exhibits and films seem to be from the 80s), but the information is good. My favorite parts were the replica of the slave ship hold and the old drug store. Its worth a stop if youre in the MLK Jr national site area and have an extra hour or so, but maybe not worth going out of your way to see.

My boyfriend and I visited this museum. I loved the atmosphere and learning about our African history. The staff was very friendly. We also got to take several selfies. We watched 2 10 minute videos that provided a timeline of the African history. I highly recommend this museum to anyone who wants to learn more about the African history.

I was impressed with learning about how African Americans started businesses on Auburn Street in downtown Atlanta in the early 1900s. The museum also had historical facts about the wealth of Africa, its Kings and Queens, forced slavery, and the many inventions of African Americans that a lot of people arent aware of. I really enjoyed it and recommend it to anyone who is seeking to educate themselves of real history regarding Africa and African Americans contribution to the United States.

I always look for history in any city when I travel. I just happen to be in Atlanta on MLK day, so I decided to visit the Apex museum. It was free today, look at the website for the rates and other free days. Lots of parking just keep in mind that on holidays Atl has no shame in charging $20 per car to park in downtown. I believe any other day at the Apex the fee is $7 per car. They do have good parking area with plenty of space. The museum is large but big enough to wander around and absorb some history. It actually was a great experience packed with knowledge for all. All the school systems need to bring the kids for a true history lesson. Lots of info about African American inventors, leaders, etc. They do have a video that runs at different times, the attendants will walk thru and the announcement. The museum is well organized and clean. Its well worth the stop if you are in the down town Auburn ave area. There are several other black history museums within walking distance, so keep that in mind since you will be already parked. I really enjoyed my time in Atlanta MLK weekend!Tip: If you want some good grub go visit Desta Ethiopian restaurant, its so yummy and customer service is on point. See my review on them.

Apex museum, in the auburn area of Atlanta GA. The Sunday me and my family visited was a surprise to me. The museum wasnt much to look at from the outside still it was a cultural experience I will forget. Central located off of sweet Auburn just down street from the King center. The display was very educational as well as entertaining. Not to lessen your experience it opens with a video presentation that sets the stage for a history of the African experience in Ga. This is a must see.

I had a great experience at the Apex Museum. The staff are personable and super friendly. I learned a lot about the journey from Africa to America. They play 2 short films to start of the tour and the rest is self-guided. Everyone visiting or living in Atlanta should visit. It’s only $5 for military/veterans and they have a Groupon special for couples and groups! It’s also a small museum but worth the visit. They also have a gift shop.

The APEX Museum is located in the Sweet Auburn area of Atlanta. Sweet Auburn was an African American area in Atlanta prior to desegregation. MLK grew up in the area and the Ebenezer Baptist Church is located there as well. The APEX is small which affords an intimate experience. Staff is friendly, helpful, and personable. There are 2 short introductory films and the small museum is filled with information. I would personally recommend the APEX more than I would recommend the new museum in Washington DC!

My wife and I took our children to the Apex Museum one Friday afternoon. Keep in mind that we visited the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute the day before and the National Civil Rights Museum at the Lorraine Motel in Birmingham the day before that. Both were great and obviously sufficiently funded. The Apex Museum is a bit dated and probably underfunded. It has been around for 40 years and has a good message. The videos they show after you pay the entrance fee have good information but technology and attention spans have changed a great deal since 1996 and 1987.The videos were presented very well by the staff member and I feel she could have conveyed the messages better than the videos did.Overall it is worth visiting if you are in Atlanta and have some extra time but by no means would I suggest driving to Atlanta for this Museum.
