I have been in and out several times over the last couple months, and I want to sing out their praises for all to hear!The first time I went in to the store, John, the owner, helped me out. I brought in a beautiful canvas piece of artwork that was a memorial fantasy portrait of my best friend who passed away in April. I had no idea what to ask for because I had never gotten custom framing done before. All I knew was that I wanted something with a little flair that would compliment the vibrant artwork but not overwhelm it. John understood exactly what I meant and what this piece of artwork needed. He helped me choose a shiny yellow floater frame that did exactly what I wanted - compliment the artwork but not overwhelm it. It was unique and perfect, and I dont think I would have ever thought to choose it on my own.The second time I went in, Natalie helped me choose a frame for a print of the same piece of artwork. Again, she selected things that complimented the artwork without overwhelming it. She saw the magic in the art, and we chose a white pearlescent matte with a dark blue metallic frame.A couple other times I went into the store, I was helped by Jean, who was every bit as wonderful as John and Natalie had been. I also received guidance on where to take the artwork to ship it, another thing I had never done. They directed me to a specific UPS store that they like to recommend using to ship artwork, and this recommendation was spot on. I shipped 3 pieces to 3 different locations and all made it in tact with no issues.Im so beyond pleased. I had an incredible experience with BlackBird Frame & Art, and I highly recommend them. They also have a lot of cool artwork from local artists in the store, and some of it is made by their employees - something else I love. Please support this incredible business - I know I will certainly continue to do so!

Wow! the folks at Blackbird (John, specifically) did a great job of walking us through various options for matting, frames, glass, etc. He was patient and the finished product (which did take a bit of time, because it is a large piece) looks amazing! I couldnt be happier, both with the finished product and the process to get here. And, they are Living wage certified! What could be better!

Finally got around to re-framing drawings (1915) my great grandfather drew. Jim McCarthy found me the perfect simple frame to complement the drawings. Now the can last another 100 years. I couldnt get a great picture of them in the frames.

My husband and I have been customers of BlackBird Frame and Art for almost eight years. They have framed every piece of photography hanging in our business, and several pieces of art for our home. Pat has an amazing sense of vision -- she can easily pull together textures and colors and have a sense for how they will interact with the art and light; I often rely on her recommendations and am always thoroughly satisfied with the outcome!

This is a lovely place to visit. It has reasonably priced local art as well as the citys largest selection of custom frames. Prices are competitive with other framers. I would never go anywhere else but here. Located right next to Home Grown.

And its remarkable the time theyll take with a customer to design a piece and get all the details right to produce stunning results.

I had an oil painting on canvas which had been rolled up for at least 6 years. The roll had settled, had gone a little flat, and the painting had visible ripples in it. I took it to BlackBird to have it stretched prior to shipping the piece to its buyer. I could not have been happier with the excellent job that Jesse did, stretching the canvas onto its new stretcher bar frame. The paintings buyer could not have been happier, either. Exceptional work! Have been a customer of Pat and Johns since about 1990. Every piece of art I have is framed by them and they are works of art themselves. John is an artist making every piece I give him a greater better more beautiful piece of art - including $10 posters! He can make them all look like I spent a million dollars. As other reviewers have noted, owner John Horrocks has not only an excellent eye for color and texture, but has a very gentle and patient demeanor that makes ones experience of him very pleasant. The environment in which he helps one select the treatment for ones art is equally calming, with excellent light and soothing music. The cost was comparable to what I had been quoted in another shop in a different state.Mr. Horrocks gave equal attention and care to helping me with this more expensive, more complex job as he had to a simple mat-cutting project about a year go. I would not go anywhere else for framing. Besides, the gallery portion of the store always has delightful things to look at, AND there is adequate and easy parking right out front.

As a professional artist in Asheville, there is not another custom framer that I would trust with my work. BlackBird has far and away the best selection of frames and the most professional staff in WNC. Degas was quoted as saying the The frame is the reward of the artist. When you finish a painting you have poured yourself into, the perfect frame is the final touch. I also use BlackBird for their installation services and could not be happier. In fact, when I was offered the largest commercial project of my career, I only agreed if they would allow BlackBird to handle the installation. It turned out perfect!

Good work, good service, a little pricey but you get what you pay for.

This is the only framer in Asheville that I would trust with an important piece to be framed; however, their pricing is on the extreme high end, and therefore, for lesser pieces, I would recommend you go elsewhere.
