Played here today, 22 November 2020, course was not that bad, effects of a ton of rain in the past is shown. Greens were pretty good. Leaves were everywhere and limbs and sticks and fallen trees. It is a shot makers course and not much room for error. Course could be better with a little more upkeep. Not worth the 55$ though.
Great course, great value, great challenge. This course was once ranked the 7th hardest course in the country. It is always in great shape when I play. I’ve played here more than 5 times and I drive almost 2 hours to play each time. Very worth it. It has the feel of a mountain course. If you need a new place to play, this is always my first choice!
Truly all its cracked up to be. This one of a kind course is in wonderful shape and it was one of the most fun rounds of golf Ive played, and I play 2-3 times a month. Staff was friendly and welcoming. Our group will definitely be making the 3+ hour round trip for more rounds at the Hill. PLEASE BRING EXTRA BALLS!!
Beautiful course. Greens were in rough shape for the price to play. They were actually resodding sections of some green spots they had lost. We payed 49$ for the weekday morning rate.
Great golf course, friendly staff, could have more food available
Great place to play for a challenge. The course is in great shape.
Great place for a day trip of golf with your foursome of friends.
First time playing this course. Website overwhelms you and expectations are high before arriving. Save your money! This is a play all day for $25 course at best. Dirt fairways, sand greens, boulders everywhere, cart paths with potholes, patches of gravel, old asphalt, no landscaping maintenance, crumbling wooden steps to tee boxes. If your travel north or south on 73 through Asheville just keep going! The $44 I spent would have been better served on a driving range. You’ve been warned.
Gorgeous course, the staff is very friendly.
Course is good Employees so bad
Fantastic and unique course. Great views and a crazy design that makes each hole a lot of fun. Conditions could have been a bit better, but mostly just from the dry weather. Location might be remote but it’s absolutely worth the drive.
A real treat to play.
Love it beautiful golf course extremely fun to play
Beautiful course. Had been aerated 9 days before, but greens were good and putted well. Some wild holes as expected from Scrantz design. Fairly priced, staff friendly
Really a great Strantz design! We frequent Tobacco Road and have wanted to make the trip to Tot Hill for awhile now - we were so glad we did.Layout - I really like the way Strantz uses the natural terrain here - this course has some elevation changes that add a lot of excitement to your round. Like a lot of Strantz designs you will want to take advantage of the Par 3’s here as they are on the easier side and I would highly suggest keeping the yardage guide handy as it will pay dividends.Conditions - If you one that will complain when a course isn’t perfectly manicured - I’d stay at your country club. Like many courses in this area there is still some winter kill but I was pleasantly surprised with the conditions and I will be back here in the near future for sure. The best thing about the course for me was the people - there were two ladies working on the club house and they went above and beyond to ensure my wife and I were satisfied - true southern hospitality that is lacking at many courses now a days.
Really fun track but general maintenance could be improved. Would come back.
One of the most beautiful courses I have ever played. Hilly, rocky outcrops and winding streams all over the course. Awesome views everywhere you look. Challenging course but rewarding. The pulled pork sandwich was delicious, had a good smoky flavor to it. Can’t wait to comeback when it is greened up in the spring or summer.
Im still new to golf but thought it had incredibly beautiful views. Even my more seasoned companions thought it was challenging. I was pretty thrilled to par the 6th hole, we wont discuss the other scores. Food was yummy at the turn & reasonably priced.
Tot Hill is a must play golf course. Elevation changes, contoured greens in great condition. And, yes, is is tough.
I played there last Saturday, 2/16. It was very cold, windy, rainy, had rained over night and there was standing water in many spots on the course so it was cart path only, and it was still maybe the most fun round of golf Ive ever had. So much personality, beautiful layout, tons of rocks and creeks winding through the course. Didnt find it too challenging off the tee but the greens were heavily guarded. Loved it and cant wait to go back.
Fairways and Greens in good shape
We drive an hour and a half to play this course. After you play Tot Hill Farm, any other course will seem dull and uninteresting. And you get real value - we played this top-rated course today - $39 for the first 18, $25 for the second. Every hole is different, every hole is a photo-op, every hole has something youve never seen on another golf course. But, difficult as this course is from the back tees, it is quite accessible to the average golfer from the white tees. Tot Hill Farm is really an undiscovered treasure. Make the trip to Asheboro - you wont regret it.
An incredible course, it is a wild ride playing out there. Highly recommended
One of the best. Beautiful. Well kept
Nice course..very hospitable people.
Nice views, worth the price and neat layout. i Enjoyed all the rocks and views. I played for $27 on a sunday afternoon. I played through twice on the front and clear on the back.
Beautiful course however the greens had been punched and were slow. Staff were friendly and certainly the views are spectacular. Take time to enjoy the vision of the developer. Five sets of tees. Hilly and forced carries so choose the tees for your game.
I loved playing a Tot Hill so much I purchased a vacant lot to build a house on when the kids are out of school in a few more years. Very challenging course!
The Good: A golf course top notch like you seldom find at this price. Youll get every challenge you can get from a golf course except maybe ocean wind. There is a creek in front of almost every green. There are multi-tiered greens. Elevated Tees in which you have to carry about 170 yards off the tee just to reach the fairway. Every kind of side hill, up hill, down hill lie there is. Its not an overwhelmingly hard course, but is it tougher than most, maybe the toughest in Central NC.The Bad: Youre going to lose more golf balls than normal. If youre the kind of guy that wont give up looking for a lost ball, this may not be your course.
The greens were in great shape, lots of challenging pin placements. Fairways are pretty good with an amazing layout. Not super long, but lots of variety. Beautiful rolling hills and scenery. You dont want to walk this course.
Beautiful layout and very fair price!! Staff was awesome. I had a great experience at Tot Hill Farms! Highly recommend playing this track!
Used to be one of my favorite Mike Stranz courses. Have played many times and always loved the layout but more importantly, the great conditioning of the course. However, conditions were much less than ideal when we played on 10/28/2018. Greens were decent but many fairways and tees have goose grass and crab grass in the turf. Green tees on hole 14 is nothing but dirt. All in all, for what used to be a premiere golf course which was always impeccably manicured, it seems to be going down hill, perhaps money problems. Will be taking this course off of our rotation until it returns to form.
Fantastic layout. Greens were in good shape. I was worried reading recent reviews, but it appears they have gotten them back. If you book online in advance it’s only $27 as opposed to $40 if you call the clubhouse. Best $27 layout you’ll ever play. Some of the tee boxes needed a little TLC, but that doesn’t effect me too much.
Course was not in the immaculate condition it was years ago but is still worth playing. There are 6-8 greens that had moderate crabgrass but other greens had little to none. This is certainly less than idea but greens still rolled fairly well considering. Fairways were in good shape, especially given the drought. Clubhouse staff indicated that they are working on addressing the crabgrass so I would expect better greens in 2018.This is a tough layout with severely sloped greens and elevation changes but it is very unique and memorable. Rough is thick so while a career day is unlikely, the course Is still worth a look.
Greens in excellent condition. I think one the most picturesque courses in NC
Great course! Layout is outstanding, very difficult but very fun and enjoyable to play. Well worth the drive, cant wait to play again. Greens were not up to standard, but was told they are working on getting crab grass under control
What a fun, challenging course!!! And the price is right.
Took my daughter to Tot Hill for a practice round and the staff was top notch. Course was in good shape and as always we got to see some deer and turkey.
Beautiful course but facilities could use an update. Played tobacco road and Caledonia and this course is just as good but the club house is just a trailer for some reason. Dont let that bother you, the course is worth the trip.
Nice golf course in really good shape
I have played Tot Hill 5 times and plan to go back. It is a beautiful course that you need to play with someone who has played it before. There are some blind tee shots but after playing this course they are not as bad as they seemed the first time. The course requires you to be very thoughtful and accurate. The setting of the course is gorgeous and it has been in excellent shape every time Ive played it. Always an enjoyable round and the people in the pro shop are very friendly and helpful. Well worth the drive of 1 1/2 hours.
Great golf course. Layout very appealing. Expected a better clubhouse for a premium course.
Conditions are definitely hurting. Greens were beat up and long. Not as nicely manicured from when I played it a couple years ago. Dont want to take away from the views and the landscape as its definitely beautiful, but from a strictly condition standpoint, the course is mediocre.
Extremely tough course but well-maintained
Great course and beautiful scenery.
Tot Hill is always a great place to play, challenging, and even accommodated a golf tournament while their power was still out 1 day after hurricane Michael came through!
One of the most underrated courses in the country. If you like golf and beautiful views, it can get no better than here.
Not worth an hour drive from Pinehurst. We added it to the trip because of the awesome views...Didnt see many...Very hard course, some greens were impossible unless you hit a perfect shot. Course was not in great shape, lots of dead patches and greens were below average. Bring your own lunch and drinks, clubhouse didnt have much.
Played today, greens a in bad shape. Some greens are missing grass, others not good at all. Had played here 2 months ago was in a lot better shape. Seems the management possibly doesnt have the resources to keep course to standards it once was.
Played June 27th......conditions were scruffy to mediocre, greens had been sanded but putted “true”.....i think this course was built to be “hard” just for the publicity that generates.....it is a “trick” course with nothing much to offer.....if you live close by, play it, but dont drive from charlotte to play it....the people running the course are very nice and welcoming, so they have that going for them....
Nice course. Not too challenging but challenging enough for the average hacker. The only thing missing is the 19th hole!
I was a bit skeptical about playing here based on a few reviews about the course conditions, but after playing it today, here are my thoughts:This course is simply stunning. People who give this place one star reviews and solely make comments about the turf grass and snack shack must have zero appreciation for (1) natural landscapes, (2) golf course architecture, and (3) enjoying life in general. The course has amazing views and shot values. The routing of the course winds up and down the natural topography, with amazing use of natural rock outcroppings to frame tee and approach shots. The green complexes are masterfully designed.Yes, the the greens aren’t perfect everywhere, but if you’re upset about bent greens running slow during 90+ heat, then you have no understanding of turf grass management. And yes, the options in the snack shack are limited, but they have cold drinks and snacks, so if them not offering a full hot menu is your reason for not enjoying your round of golf, then you are an unreasonable person who is incapable of happiness.Go play this course and enjoy the beauty of the landscape and the design.
We played 36 holes at Tot Hill Farm Golf Club last week. The staff was very accommodating and friendly for our golf group of 8 players. The course was challenging, but more than fair if you dont spray the ball too much. A lot of interesting holes that challenge your eyes as well as your golf swing. This course does take a while to play as there are many travels from green to next tee box (4-1/2 - 5 hrs). The greens look faster than they play and we found our putts coming up short on many of the holes. Shot 74-78 for the day!! We thoroughly enjoyed our trip there and recommend this Strantz design.
3 stars just for the unique design. Tees and fairways hadnt been mown in weeks, greens in several days. Only have so many Mike Strantz courses, and hes not making anymore! Dont let this layout close!
Far different than any other course in the Triad area. Mike Strantz was the mad scientist of course design, and it shows here, just like Tobacco Road. Always in at least decent shape, though hot summers and cold winters take their toll. Its like a mini golf course turned into 6400 yards.
Greens can use some work. Overall a challenging and fun course to play. Worth a visit. Will be playing this course againm
Very nice, and difficult, course.
Not impressed, rough is an understatement. Group I was with played years ago, must have been under different management. All I really need in a course is greens that roll true, good luck with the crabgrass on these greens. When you pull up to a course as well reviewed/rated as tot hill and no one is on the course you should take it as a sign from above.
Hard but fun, staff friendly helpful. other golfers got feelings hurt easy. Watch out for low flying planes.
One of the best public courses in NC, and its affordable, challenging, and beautiful. Well worth my 1.5 drive from Charlotte. So much so, that I do it 2-3 times per year if I can.
If you are looking easy, you had better go play putt-putt. You really do have to stay focused to play this one. Oh, and try to take someone with you that has played it before. Our family will drive from Roxboro NC in a heartbeat to play.
Extremely hilly but fun and challenging
Course has really went down hill for the last 3 years I have a group of 20 that makes the stop there to play 36 holes and before Pinehurst and the greens where terrible and the fairways wasnt much better. Good design must be poor management
WEDDING VENUE REVIEWWe had no problem booking, arranging things. The staff was helpful over the phone and through emails. We came the week of the wedding to begin arranging seats and what not only to find the trash from the previous wedding in the barn. We asked all week for it to be taken off. We ended up taking it to their front door 2 hours before the rehursal dinner on that Friday. The barn was decently cleaned out after that. The ceremony was perfect except...Tot Hill promised to have golf paused for a few minutes for the one hole next to my ceremony. They didnt. We had 3 golf balls come within feet of hitting my guests. As well as they were suppose to have golf cart traffic stopped around the barn for the 30 minutes. That didnt happen. I had multiple golf carts running up on me as I was proceeding to walk down to the fence to walk down the isle asking me to move... In my wedding dress with my father walking me down...It was a night mare at that point because my wedding photos of me walking down the isle no include golfers making faces in the background.Tot hill did what they could after the incidents the following day... As in offering incentives which was nice.Other than that the barn was a really neat place to have a small wedding. No more than 80.After that many its crowded. Marci was super helpful and a life saver though.
You need to be a goat. Lots of bad bounces.
This golf course is very challenging and difficult. Not for the below average player if you care bout your score. Once you play it for the first time you are eager to play it again
Rate grossly overpriced. Very hilly. Greens in bad condition. Starting times very close so play was extremely slow. Not a pleasant experience.
Super place to play. Great condition
Greens were Terrible! Grab grass on greens. Bare spots on greens. Fairways mowed one side of mower was to low. Been coming down ten years worst shape EVER. Very Disappointed Hopefully there will be changes. We the course!
Not for the average duffer, if you cant break 80 on your local track then you may only enjoy the view, but still a must see as well as tobacco rd. and the pit. Simply awe inspiring
I almost hate to make this review, b/c we love this course. However, since Tot Hill management was taken over by Integrity Golf Co, its not like it used to be. I miss the old staff... the down-home attitude and the condition of the course. My hsb and I played there on Monday, Aug 15th @ 2pm, and the guy, whose name I prefer not to mention, gave us a hard time over the rates. The posted rates were what we typically pay on a Monday. However, when we got to the course, I was told that was a mistake, but, theyd let us have it THIS TIME! Bad attitude and not too friendly. We were the only ones on the course; everyone else had finished. There was no one in front of us, and no one behind us. Lets just say, I miss the old staff, b/c their attitude was always, happy to see you, and thank you for coming in. We dont need that, but Id rather feel welcomed than like I have interrupted his day...kind of attitude.Rates are too high for the condition the course is in....no offense. We have played TH many, many, many, many times, and we’ve never seen it in such bad condition. The greens were in terrible shape; a lot of them had crabgrass and bear spots on them. #5 had 4-5 mole holes... it was a mess. Also, a lot of the tee boxes had not been mowed, and the fairways were unevenly moved; the rough was not kept at all.It appears that they have scaled down the maintenance crew, and they’re only doing what they can with what they have. It was clear that the reels had not been sharpened in a while. We felt bad for the crew, b/c, clearly he was doing his best for what he had to work with.It seems that since Integrity started managing the property, it’s gone downhill. We hate to see that, b/c TH has a very beautiful and challenging layout. It was always at the top of our favorites.Side note: We both play a very respectable game and f/ the regular mens tees
This course is amazing, very challenging, and demands your focus. Be sure to bring a lot of balls. Dont crush the ball at The Rock because it will fly over the green, bounce on the cart path, and fly into the unknown.
Play this course twice in one day if you are just visiting. Its more bad to the bone the 2nd time around and you will score better obviously. Enjoy the views and be prepared to focus and play some target golf. Others reviews mention how daunting the course can be and better bring extra balls... but thats only if you cant hit the ball strait. Anyones home course can let the rough grow up and shave the greens, and if you dont hit fairways that course is gonna kick your butt. Hit the fairways here or the course will send you home thinking Maybe I should take up bowling... I think 18 and under handicap players should make the trip to Tot Hill Farms but hit the range first. Very affordable and the course is in decent shape. Greens were misleadingly slow on the wet/windy day that I played but that is my only complaint. Do not play this course if you have trouble walking or climbing stairs as there are plenty of hills and places to loose your footing.
Love the course, try to play it every year but it is definitely showing age and lack of money. Fun layout though, must play course if you havent.
Great course. Very challenging and scenic. A must ply if youre in the area.
Excellent for the price from Groupgolfer.
First of all, its cheap. It was only $45 to play it in the summer when the snow birds go away. Second, its awesome....!!!! Now if you cant break 100 on your local course youre going to hate this course. Its a big boy course...not for the faint of heart. Tough is an understatement. Its not long, most par 4s are 340-350 yards, but accuracy is the key. My foursome said, Youve got to be kidding me..?? on just about every tee box. Then they complained over beers at the 19th hole about the greens, boulders, creeks, blind shots, et cetera. Said they would never play it again. Then a month later, they were begging me to go back. Its unlike any other course you will play. Worth the 45 min drive from Raleigh, NC. Just bring a lot of balls, because you will lose them. Good luck and hit them straight....!!!!
Love the course layout.
Beautiful, but difficult course that is worth the drive.
Place is in rough shape. Greens are ok but roll like the K-Mart parking lot. the fairways are filled with weeds and crabgrass. Tee boxes are also full of weeds. Shot 82 so I’m being picky.
Great course..
For the SECOND Time this course was totally mismanaged, the first time a GROUP of 14 all started playing together on #15,on Sunday a Group of 6 was holding up the course for another 6 hour round on a Sunday,at the turn a FIVESOME was going off and when we were leaving another Group of SIX was going off. NO RANGERS TO CONTROL PACE OF PLAY. THEY REALLY DONT CARE,ALL THEY WANT IS YOUR MONEY TO PLAY A GIMMICK COURSE. STAY AWAY.
Love that course!
Nice course, not the usual golf course
Awesome
Its not for me but a lot of people love it
Best course hands down!
Funny course to play
To much money
Love it out at Tot Hill!
One of a kind.
Unique design, not well maintained, overpriced
Love this course
Great layout in the foothills
Greens were rough.
