A huge plus to Arcata. Love the events planned there, the space, the bar (that Bloody Mary at 8:30am on Sunday for the womens world cup was right on! $8.50)... I dont go out much but I patronize this place on a regular basis- for the improv shows, the movies and the live sports events.Food took forever to come (they got swamped) but the breakfast nachos were surprisingly good.It is very reasonably priced but I heard its changing ownership?!

First time after living here 4 years! This place is rad. It was a popular movie so the line was tonthe end of the block. Get a seat then get into the food line. It will take a while.

I visited over labor day weekend and apparently the place had just been under new management. They had an electronic music concert and the entry fee was only $5 which includes $5 credit towards buying a drink. I really hope this place takes off as their concert was a blast and I see great potenttial for it

Calling the bouncers overzealous would be doing them a compliment. You could leave a baby drowning in the urinal and they still wouldnt let you back in.

Very intimate, well designed theater with at decor design and incredible acoustics. (Mustve been built by the Masonics)tasty drinks, great venue for a variety of reasons which I do not have the time to state now, but of all the venues in Humboldt county this and the eureka municipal auditorium are the best for acoustics by far! The atmosphere and ambiance in there makes it one of the best places to see a show for hundreds of miles. The security is strict but all love, everyone wants to be there, its its beautiful, great view from anywhere, good bathrooms with several stalls, handicapped access to anywhere, love it.

Movie started early, popcorn too salty to eat, seats way too uncomfortable to sit in for long. The staff is friendly, movie selection is good and the concept could work if they get proper movie-viewing seating.

Amazong place from live perfomaces, helpful fun staff with a clean environment, the round speakers really set this place apart from other venues! Also when the red curtain is up it is iconic in the ATL. Dances floors AWESOME TIMES, beautiful people of the humbolt country area expressing themselves to the fullest!

Seating could have been more comfortable and the sound near the walls could be better. Would have given more stars but the other patrons made it not so enjoyable. Will try again in hopes of a better experience.

Atmosphere, price, selection of drinks, food, movies, music...all worth it

Went to see Elf with my family to include my 3 year old and the movie was great but we ordered food 30 mins before the movie even started. Movie played and at the end of the movie we never recieved our food. We were told that it would only be 20 mins for the food to come out so we waited. 50 mins later and our food still hadnt arrived. Absolutely terrible. Over half of the guests in the theater didnt recieve their food and requested a refund which is what we should have done. Over 3 hours for a burger, salad, and some chicken strips. Oh, and other than the one quick apology nothing was said to us nor offered to make up for the lack of service.

Went to their showing of Akira. They played the movie in Japanese with English subtitles. Even though the English dub is the exact translation as those subtitles. They could have at least stated the language on their website/Facebook page. I also believe it was not the highest quality release of the film available. The nachos I ordered took over an hour and arrived soggy.

Got to see Sci-fi night: Sinbad. Loved it!

My review is based off the theater aspect of the establishment. I do not think its fair to call this place a theater, more like a lounge with a projector in it.Do not come here expecting a movie theater experience, it is much more casual.The seating is tables with typical diner chairs, difficult to sit in for hours. Some of the seats are behind other seats which leads to people getting mad at each other for blocking the view.Expect to hear tumblers full of ice shaking upon other food-related noises because there is a bar inside the theater. Many people also like to look at their phones in the theater.The projector is obviously of inferior quality, low resolution and lacking contrast, the screen itself has blemishes in it which are visible. The sound system is the worst part, it hurts, very hard on the ears, and no surround sound. I have better speakers in my house.

This is probably about the 5th or 6th time Ive seen the On the Spot Improv Comedy performances, but first under the new management. As usual, the performance was great! I like that I can now purchase tickets online as there was a huge line at the box office, and they now accept credit cards. My nephew attended with me, he really enjoyed his first comedy show. We look forward to future performances!

Food is pretty good but the real fun is watching movies in a relaxed environment!

I love this place and have been going for years. Its very affordable (usually $5/ticket) and they offer great food and an amazing selection of drinks, including a full bar. Unfortunately, they dont serve personal pizza anymore, but their burgers and brownies are amazing. They are always screening classics and the staff is always friendly and helpful. An Arcata icon!!!

Cool place! There’s always something happening. Concerts, movie nights and other special events. I really enjoy the Banff Film festival they host every year!! Watch out for the Banff Film tour at this location and get your tickets!!!

The sound can get a bit echo-ey, but generally a great spot to see a show, with solid food and bar options and a usually lively crowd. The monthly On the Spot Comedy shows are especially fun and very popular events, often drawing crowds over 200.

The acoustics can occasionally be a bit challenging, but this is a terrific 200+ seat place to see a show, with a full bar and table service. On the Spot Comedys sellout shows are a popular monthly high point! (full disclosure: Im in the group!)

I love going to Sci-Fi Night on Wednesdays and genuinely enjoy the chill atmosphere. However, the experience that I had at the last Sci-Fi night has led me to write a review. We had a waiter that was very rude (rolling his eyes and sighing loudly when we asked for a new ketchup bottle because ours was empty) and there seems to be an inconsistency with some things on the menu. I ordered some sweet potato fries two weeks ago and the waiter offered me condiments when he brought the food, but this week I got a spicy garlic sauce with my fries (it was so bomb, would recommend) and when I asked for condiments, the same sigh-y eyeroll-y waiter told me if I wanted condiments, I would need to sort it out with the people at the counter. It was an abnormal experience; I have always had good service when Ive gone on past Sci-Fi Nights. Regardless of food service, I would 100% recommend this place and will continue to see awesome B-rated cringe-y Sci-Fi films in the future.

How can you go wrong with a theatre/music venue/bar with appetizers, pizza and burgers? You cant. This place is amazing! It is a really old theatre retrofitted as a bar and music venue. I Love this place. They have classic sci-fi nights and other through back classic movie nights when not hosting amazing music artists. Advice? If any event speaks your interest, go. You wont regret it.

Fun place to see older movies. Great food. Burgers so fresh. Sweet potato fries were Amazing! Good cocktails. PBR pints $3- nice. Dont bring any outdoor food/candy. They search bags. Family friendly. Chairs ok for a short movie but not very comfortable overall.

I caught an improv show (On the Spot Improv) here and was able to get seating very close to the stage, which, considering the price of the tickets (just the regular entry price) was awesome. I did show up about half an hour early to make sure I could get good seats.Theres nothing spectacular about the space, but its kinda exactly what you want in Arcata -- intimate and local in all the best ways. As a vegan, I was amazed that they had a vegan cookie that I could buy (or, in all honestly, have my sister buy for me). But even if you have no sister who is able or willing to buy a cookie for you -- the cookies still exist and you can buy them for yourself. So, that was pretty incredible.This place is located right up the street from the plaza. Easy walking distance. Street parking is ample and free, although slightly more challenging if you dont arrive 30 minutes before the show.As someone not from Arcata, Id say that you should absolutely check this place out and see if anything catches your fancy. I was skeptical that the improv would be any good (were not theater people, and hes certainly not an improv/comedy guy), but my husband and I both found it super fun and talked about it all night!

Amazing place for concerts, fun for movies! I love the food and drinks here, staff is always really helpful. Some vegan options for snacks and veggie options seem to be pretty good too!

We have watched Harry Potter and Goonies there. It has a really fun, laid back feel, with various seating styles and arrangements, and a nice full service bar with a great bartender, Jessica! We always enjoy taking the kids to movies there.

I love going here to watch some older movies. Its fun to be able to see the movies I watched as a kid on the big screen again.Their fries are amazing, their burgers are a little strange. (Lots of lemon?)

Ive seen some pretty huge entertainers here.They tend to attract pretty famous entertainers on their way to larger venues. They also serve food which is clutch when drinking.

Great ambience - love the diverse programming. They have cult movie nights, sci fi movies, improv comedy. Food is fun - beer, wine, cocktails, all while the enjoy a great seeing in downtown Arcata.

I saw Minnesota here and it was a great club atmosphere with a good sounds system, places to dance, and good bar.

Its a casual dinner theater type place. Theyve got live music shows, repeats of classic movies, and my favorite: Sci-Fi pint and pizza nights where they show terrible movies, weird russian cartoon clips, old public safety videos, and local independent films. Admission and raffle tickets are free with $5 food and drink purchase (they have a full bar) and they raffle off crazy items like a VHS tape of the 1998 Lost in space, a reference encyclopedia of geological terms, a glow in the dark plastic dinosaur, free tickets to upcoming events, a star trek novel, or a fake mustache made from real human hair (Note that all these are real prizes Ive won while attending their events). Its a lot of fun and I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys bad movies or good food and drinks.

Pretty cool space to chill on the weekend.
