Great place for families with kids. Refreshing, educational and will take you to Jurassic era. There is a food place called Darwin if you want some snacks in the museum building. They have some sample rocks and dinosaur models, you can actually touch. The museum is beautiful and well organized. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable.

This is a fantastic natural history museum with a really well-thought layout. While it’s slightly geared towards younger scholars, there are plenty of displays that everyone can appreciate. This place does a great job with several hands-on displays and labs that allow children to garner a better understanding of the exhibits. One of my favorite areas was one showcasing native Michigan plants and animals. They also have a planetarium show for an additional charge.Museum designers struck a good balance between amount of content and visual appeal. This is a perfect rainy-day place especially if you have the kids on a day off school. It is also budget-friendly as admission is on a donation basis.

This place is good for kids above 10yrs I guess. I took my toddler there and he was not much into it. Very good for kids to learn about nature, evolution of plants, animals, rocks etc. All of this is free, while you can watch a movie for $8 per head (it was a 40 min movie on sea monsters when we visited)

I am super super excited to have seen/ experienced a whole museum entirely dedicated to show Evolution at a grand scale!! Right from the very beginning of origins of life till the present day to Fantastic collection of fossils, beautiful casting work, to appealing models and finally to the gripping language describing these huge process in such simple and fun ways! This museum of natural history at University of Michigan is one of its kind. This particular picture is taken at section where the Tree of Life is explained in a visually and linguistically appealing manner.

A unique place ideal for kids and adults alike to spend time while learning our past. The fossils kept on display vary from minerals, animals, fishes, mammoths, meteorites, footprints, and much more. The best part is you are encouraged to touch them, thus making it a holistic learning experience for the kids of any age.

It was pretty cool, but Id wait until all their exhibits are open. Most will be open November 2019. Theres still plenty to see, but we were a little disappointed by the infrequent gaps. There were also several areas were there were supposed to have interactive activities; they were all closed. I dont know if thats because they arent available yet, or because we went on a Sunday.

This museum is small, but as expected since it is a free entry museum. The planetarium was cool but unexpected; usually for planetariums like this, it is more of a movie on the screen, but this one had a narrator/presenter who talked to us about the topic, and it was interactive, so the audience could shout out answers that the presenter would ask.

Can easily spend 1-2 hrs here and there is plenty for people of all ages. Best of all its free. This little museum is on UoM campus. The focus is on natural history so you will get the usual dinosaur bones and displays but by focusing on prehistoric times in MI makes it unique. The microbiology lab upstairs was the highlight for our kids. They got a chance to use pipettes and perform DNA extractions and ELISA. The media and info videos are carefully crafted to neither be nonexistent or excessive.

I love the museum of natural history, or the dinosaur museum. Its amazing for anyone curious about biology, paleontology, astronomy, geology, history, and more. Its hard to review a place that is formative to your view of the world? Great hands on museum for kids to go to and adults alike. Worth every cent of the $6 suggested donation for admission. Their permanent exhibits include a evolution floor with tones of bones of extinct, prehistoric and contemporary animal species (including dinosaurs, mastodons and dolphins). Another floor dedicated to Michigan animals, another to anthropology and archaeology - where their temporary exhibits and planetarium are also located. The Sunday I was there they offered Dinosaur tours and had tons of additional temporary activity tables for the kids to interact with; one had jaw bones of various animals for them to touch and learn about, another had a demonstration about cockroaches, etc.

The natural history museum after renovations has a lot of cool additions and is set up differently than before. The museum has been moved a build over and is now combined with U of M school of science. Its great to see technology positively incorporated but, that in combination with the sterile white floor and wall environment, the natural history museum has lost the feeling of a cozy old museum with hidden secrets about our world waiting to be discovered. The museum now is new-agey and is still great for those whove never been.

This used to be such an amazing gem. Unfortunately, with all the changes, this is no longer a kid friendly place. The museum is on the second floor and is in the middle of what is being used as a study hall. It is very quite and noises / screams echo. The museum itself is now only 1 hallway that loops around, and the bigger items are spread through the whole building. To see the mammoths you have to go to the lobby, some stuff is visible on the street through the windows, others are suspended through the building in weird areas. Like I was saying, the charm is gone, no longer an exciting place for kids.

Too much for me to read in a couple hours; could easily take a half day here, even with young kids. The exhibits have notices which tells you to go ahead and touch and feel a million year old specimen and fossils...it’s surreal!! The old natural history museum is extinct and the new museum is a disappointing shadow of the original. All the charm and character of the previous museum is absent from this new incarnation. The interior architecture of the new building has vast open areas that are bare and covered in a bleak cold coat of gray paint. Moreover, the space for displays feels extremely minimal. There are a few areas that have yet to open, but even with those spaces it will likely seem barren to people that enjoyed the old museum. The main purpose of the new building is undoubtedly the lab facilities and the university seems to have succeeded in creating a great deal of new modern lab space. However, the amazing Ann Arbor museum that was the University of Michigan Natural History Museum was greatly diminished in the process.
