Amazing museum, so much history and child friendly. I never thought there would see so much Roman history in one American building but this is just fascinating. In fact, they have a to scale 5/6 version of the room of the mystery’s and the room is so huge. The re-making process of the room is just as fascinating as the history of color through Rome.
What I really loved was the emphasis on every day objects. There arent the huge monuments you see other places. Instead, you have grains found near a hearth, pots, small decorative objects, etc. Of course, since there is Egyptian stuff, there is also a cat mummy and a raptor mummy.I particularly enjoyed the Etruscan section. The focus is on Mediterranean ancient civilizations. Objects come from U of M digs. The gift shop had some really fun stuff. My only complaint, as someone who is mobility impaired, was the lack of places to sit in the museum. A few places to rest would have enabled me to spend more time enjoying the museum. There is plenty of space to maneuver a wheelchair. There is an elevator to get to second floor exhibits, which staff were quick to point out to me. There are a few steps to the gift shop.Free, donations accepted. Parking, when U of M is in session, is going to be tricky. Right around the corner from many places to get meals and shop.
We popped in on a recent trip to AA and are so glad we did! Packed with awesome pieces of history. Free, but definitely worth a donation. Loved the building it was housed in too.
Underrated. Staff are very knowledgeable; I was given a tour by a lovely man who had answers to all of my questions and then some. You can tell they really care about the artifacts.
Amazing collection. Helpful and knowledgeable guides. Well worth the visit
Ann Arbors hidden gem! It is a small but fascinating museum with very good collections and a modern presentation. Loved it.
Beautiful place and its free! Educational and inspiring. Shows the wonderful things archealogy can discover and bring. Thanks University of Michigan
It reminds me of the British Museum, but in minature. We were able to get a doscent led tour and being able to understand the meaning of the artfacts and inscriptions really bought the collection to life for me.
Well worth the stop! Its free but they do accept donations
Great place for history lovers and future archeologists! Had many great exhibits of ancient rome and greece as well as ancient Egypt. The only lack luster exhibit was the graffiti as devotion because it seemed to be just infographic posters and some pillars but without any real artifacts or reproductions. Would be great if the museum was open mondays as well. The cost was free and i still recommend going to look at ancient rome and Egypt.
Excellent museum. Officially free, but well worth the suggested donation if you can afford it. They make superb use of available space. They have regularly scheduled tours available, but the information plaques included with the displays make the tour a bonus instead of a requirement.
Theres not much sightseeing in Ann Arbor. So you could have spent a whole afternoon there, if you are interested in history and culture. Well presented and its free.
Very cool place full of historical items.
Small, but dense with fascinating exhibits.
I had a fun time when I went here. Gift shop is a little weak, and the museum is admittedly small, but I found it to be interesting and a stop worth seeing. Especially in winter.
Went with a friend to a lecture. It was very well presented. The prof was not arrogant nor made those of us lacking a deep knowledge of archeology welcome and did a very interesting presentation! So nice this museum is close and open to public.
Loved it
Great little free museum this. Very clean and easy to get around, with great bathrooms if youve got little kids in tow.One thing of note, the lift at the front is a little tricky to get going and this place does shut promptly, with the lifts being switched off, so we had a little trouble finding our way out. There is plenty of on street parking around the museum, with metered parking at $1.50 a hour, which is pretty good.Nice collection of artifacts with a lot of info, well displayed.
Well-presented and educational; complements the art museum as that place doesnt display objects from Antiquity.
This is stunning small museum
Excellent museum.
This is an incredible museum! So many fantastic ancient artifacts are stored here, and most people have no idea it exists. From Egypt to Rome, youll find artifacts from all across the ancient world. The most amazing museum in Ann Arbor that you probably havent been to!
When you feel like giving your little one a treat. Great place.
Incredible artifacts dating back 3,000 years! Very helpful and knowledgeable staff.
