Had an amazing time with my girlfriend and friends. Great place to go if youre looking for some fun! Live music was awesome, the food was delicious, and the waitress was very helpful! Im most definitely going back soon. Even though it was my first time there and had to of been one of their more busy nights, I still had blast. I would recommend this place to anyone. Also If you go there ask for Allison, shes an awsome waitress and also my sister. So tip well, be nice and have a good time!

Food was really good. Got quite a bit for the price. Service was really good. Sat at the bar and had 2 different employees approach me and ask what I needed within 5 minutes and they werent super slow. Had a really nice selection of whiskeys, beers, and wines. Would definitely go back if in the area again

Love this local restaurant! The fried brussels sprouts are the yummiest starter followed by their juicy house burger. Maybe even splurge and enjoy a Guinness!

Terrible experience here on a Saturday night. Took us 2 hours to get our food. There were 9 of us. Half of our table was served first. Then 30 minutes later the other half were served....? My food arrived cold after waiting all that time for it. Disappointing. They also ran out of fries and salmon that night.. Sigh, it was just a really bad experience for my first time here. Good thing is, when I took the food home and reheated it, it was very good!

I love the atmosphere, its warm and cozy. The staff is inviting and friendly. The chef inspired food is delicious, way beyond bar food. There is even a stage for live music that I will be checking out soon! The Whiskey House is definitely being added to my favorite places to hang out and grab a meal.

Food and prices were decent. COVID procedures were straight up awful.We ate outside, but it was absolutely PACKED inside and masks by staff were worn very inconsistently. The fact that they advertise their COVID procedures and changes is very misleading, inaccurate and dishonest.

Great selection of whiskey and great atmosphere. They have an option to smoke your drink its like smoke that adds more flavor to your drink. Which tastes good. The employees were friendly. They also have an outside patio. I would definitely come here again.

Came for a groupon, left promising I would come back for more. Had a great Old Fashioned, and their burger special was the Good Burger just like the movie....which honestly was one of the best burgers Ive ever had. Ill definitely be back!

Came in sat down staff is very interactive the fries are badass and the double double can be challenging to bite into but worth the battle the drinks are good and bartenders are down to earth

Was really excited to check this place out post covid-19. Atmosphere was nice. Was looking forward to trying their whiskey flights which were advertised on their menu online. That wasnt available. For a whiskey place, you would expect to see a whiskey menu on the table, that wasnt a thing either! Only had drink menu with wine, beer and cocktails. Crazy! I kept having to ask our server if they had different things. I also had to ask for water and straw. This would be expected at a regular bar/restaurant but not a whiskey one. Got the pork chop, was cooked well but didnt have flavor. Spouse got the pasta, said it was ok but kinda bland. Just disappointed, was hoping to make it my regular place to explore different whiskeys.

Great cocktails and music.

Food was tasty and staff was welcoming. I had a Brisket and Cheddar sandwich with a side salad (the side salad was surprisingly good) and my husband had Poutain. Apparently they had a great Friday evening so they were out of ingredients for drinks we wanted to try.

Food was very impressive, burgers had a great charbroiled flavor and tasted amazing. The brisket sandwich was great too.

Very slow service and though the whiskey was good, we had to ask for a list and it was in a sloppy binder that was falling apart. It reminded me of a list of songs you would pick from for karaoke lol Not the elegant date night vibe we were looking for.Not sure how to reply to a comment so Ill just respond here. I just wasnt impressed. I picked this spot for my husbands birthday dinner. We had never been there before. I looked it up online and the menu had what looked like, great cocktails and a pairing menu. My husband loves whiskey so I thought this would be something different. So we got a babysitter and drove 45 minutes to arrive at a restaurant with a handful of people inside. It took a very long time for any one to wait on us. The waiter did explain that he was the only one on that night and it was a Saturday night......We got our drinks after our appetizer. The whiskey menu wasnt on the table so we were confused about what whiskey was available and we had to flag someone down, that wasnt our waiter, because he was taking a very long time to come back and we got the list of whiskey. The person, I think he was a bartender, explained that the most expensive whiskey tastes the same as the cheaper ones, at those price points you are just paying for the label.... The cocktails I saw online were no where to be found on any menu and there was no mention of a pairing menu. There were only a handful of things on the menu and nothing was jumping out at us. We were going to make a night of it, but decided to simply pay for our drinks and appetizer and got dinner somewhere else.

It was our first visit. They have live music. It was fine the act had bad jokes but the music was good. There was serious confusion of who our server would be. Once that was figured out it got better. We ordered and when we thought the food should be coming our server came and they where out of one of our orders. They had to start over so it was a while before getting our food. Meal was great. It had good flavor. Well try them again. Enjoy.

When we got there we were the only people in the whole place. It was lunch time so we were surprised it wasnt a little more busy. It took the waitress a while to even to come over and take our order. The food wasnt even hot. It was our first time there and we wont be coming back. It is decorated inside so cute but unfortunately the service and food was not up to par.

Really good food, good service, and a fun atmosphere. There was a fun band there the night we went, too, so that was a bonus.

We went twice. Both times were completely different, probably because of how busy they were. The first time was very busy and our food took a very long time to arrive cold. The second time we were served quickly, the food was great and the staff was nice.Edit to respond:Its understandable that the service was slow that day. The food is amazing as always. The service was fast but i was a bit put off by the free flowing swearing that came from the bartender. However she was pleasant, chatty, and welcoming.

Great atmosphere. It was comfortable but classy with good music playing and not too loud. Had a nice Moscow mule - their drinks are pretty small but the prices are decent. Also had the brisket sandwich and it was pretty great. They have a stage for live music, but we didnt stick around that long. Will have to next time!

Went here on a whim and was very pleased. The brisket poutine is delicious, the 5 cheese bourbon Mac and cheese was good as well. Good selection of whiskeys. Drinks are on the pricey side but was well worth the stop.

Went on Friday night and they were out of everything...cornbread muffins, Mac and cheese....tried ordering five different things only to be told they were out of them. At 7pm on a Friday night? Horribly slow service and the food came out cold and overcooked. Burger was like eating shoe leather. Most pathetic looking seared salmon ever. This was the worst and most expensive meal and it took two hours. Will never come back. So disappointed as we had high hopes based on menu and their pics. Only positive was their drinks were good but too pricey to order too many of them.

The food was amazing, and it was some of the best service Ive had at a restaurant. Staff was friendly and courteous and obviously proud of their establishment.

Came here twice in the last week. Came last Thursday and even though business hours said they were open they weren’t. Then came back tonight and tried to order two different things and they were out of both. Only have a very limited amount of items on the menu and to not even have those is crazy. Wasted my time driving there from Des Moines twice. Would not recommend wasting your time going there.

An impressive whiskey selection! The cocktails i had were tasty, balanced, and very well made. The app list had several great choices, i thought the brussel sprouts were really delicious.

I and some friends came here for my 23rd birthday. They had one bartender on and he was getting very busy at one point, but he was amazing. Honestly one of the best bartenders Ive ever had. He was personable and incredibly chill to talk with. He made the experience awesome. They have an incredibly large number of whiskeys to choose from plus some amazing cocktails. Deffinatly a place to check out and I plan on being back very soon.

After all of the publicity, my wife and I decided to visit the Whiskey House on 1/7. Our experience was one of the worst weve had in Des Moines thus far. I am a bourbon lover, and their choices in that regard are really impressive...but the rest falls really flat.For instance, on a Saturday night at 6:15 they were already out of 25% of their entrees, and another few appetizers. One such shortage was THE BURGER. Why someone had not simply run to the local store to get hamburger meat...I have no idea. The menu itself is already very limited and unimpressive, which is an example of the personality crisis going on here (should we be Texas Road House, a roadhouse bar, or an upscale whiskey joint and restaurant?). My sliders were literally brisket placed on a hot dog bun cut three ways.Service was also awful. We were there for a total of 90 minutes, and were lucky to have seen our waitress 4 times. One visit was to bring us the wrong food, disappear for 20 minutes and never apologize or recognize that it took an hour to get mac and cheese and three sliders. Once the food did arrive it was not good...cold and nothing you couldnt get anywhere else. Im sure there are kinks to work out, but I dont anticipate going back...there are too many other great places that deserve your business.

We had a great time at the Whiskey House. All of our food was excellent and fairly priced. We had the brisket poutine, the whiskey house burger, onion rings, sweet potato fries, the brisket and cheddar sandwich, and a couple of Moscow mules. It was a very casual, adult environment. Perfect for a date night out!

Waited an hour and twenty minutes for a burger and club sandwich when there were maybe a dozen people in the restaurant. The food wasn’t very good, either.

Drinks were great. Seat yourself meant we had both 2 waiters and no waiters. The food was HORRIBLY disappointing. Putine tasted like nothing but gravy from a jar. Pasta dishes tasted over powered by a single seasoning used in both dishes.

Food was to die for. Live music on a weeknight? Not bad! Only complaint was the group of people who thought it was a good place to bring a bunch of wild children to run through the bar.

Definitely my one and only time visit. And I say visit because I didnt even stay. I had been planning on taking My girlfriend there for date night to see the dueling pianos, which is supposed to be every Wednesday night. Except tonight. It was not posted on Facebook or their website.The manager insisted it was posted which was a flat out lie. We checked before we decided to drive the 30 mins. When we got there we were not greeted by anyone, sat down and was told it was a comedy show and there was a $15 cover?! Then we get the menu and it is easily half of what they list online. $26 for a 7oz filet? Are you for real?!

Nice appetizers and excellently made whiskey cocktails. 2 different types of Old Fashions were sampled as well as an excellent Vieux Carré (via bartenders choice) Im not even a Whiskey drinker (my partner is) and I thought these drinks were well made. My partner thought they were AMAZING.

Bourbon selection is decent and fair priced, although GTS is ridiculously over-priced.Service is really disappointing. Happy hour on a Wednesday isnt high priority, but still...there were sales left on the table because no staff paid attention.

I rarely write negative reviews but our poor experience this evening compelled me to do so. My girlfriend ordered onion rings for her side. I ordered fries. The waiter did not write down our order but asked us to confirm it a couple times. I found this odd and a bit irritating. Then when the food came out our sides were switched around. Aside from that issue, both of our sandwiches and sides were quite cold. We were given no silverware and were offered no condiments. Furthermore, our glasses both sat empty for the majority of our meal. Not once were we asked if we would like refills. When we were ready to leave we had to track down the waiter ourselves to get the check. There was only 7-10 customers in the entire restaurant. This was our first (and last) visit. Hopefully our visit was a one off bad experience. For the price of the food and beverages, we expected much better.

Terrible food and even worse service! It took at least 10 minutes for a waiter to even come to our table to give us menus and get drink orders. My husband ordered the spicy pasta dish with sausage but it was so very spicy that he couldnt even eat it - it literally made his lips numb and he had to send it back. I had a salad with grilled chicken - the chicken was burnt. Had to go to the bar ourselves to get drinks because our server barely came back to our table. Overall disappointing experience. Very nice facility. Great food and drinks. Unfortunately the service was the overriding factor for a 1 star. We waited for 15 minutes after we sat down for someone to take our order. Then that continued for the rest of our time there. I noticed other folks waiting for service as well. I wouldnt say they were very busy while we were there either. It appears they have some management issues.

Wife and I came here for drinks and apps. We should have stayed for dinner and music. I had a Balvenie 14 and wife had the whiskey cocktail. The Balvenie was served in a snifter and was an I remembered.The whiskey cocktail my wife enjoyed was quite an interesting drink. Im not familiar with whiskey cocktails as I prefer neat, so maybe this is a standard at most places. It was clearly a whiskey drink with just a hint of sweetness. A nice lemony earthy flavor rounded out the drink with no alcohol bite. If memory serves, the spirit was Bulleit Bourbon.We savored the brisket poutine. It was a nice poutine with fries, cheese curds, gravy and brisket. I wonder how the dish would have tasted if the brisket was served over the top of the gravy rather than drowned it in. I think being drowned it might have lost some of the BBQ goodness. Great dish nonetheless. I heartily recommend.Cheers!

I stopped in with some friends on a Saturday afternoon between lunch and dinner time. This is a great place. The whiskey list is huge and comes in a binder. Take a look at the selection behind the bar though, there are a few things available that dont show up on the list. Staff was great talk to about the whiskeys and even put me on the trail of how to find a bottle that is rather rare.

Never seen anything like this in any place I’ve ever eaten or had a drink. Our server was completely impaired in some sort of way. Forgot our drinks several times. At one point she fell on the ground and had to be carried away. No one offered any explanation as to what happened to her. No apology, no explanation. Most bizarre experience I’ve ever had at any establishment.

The enjoyable food, good service, nice atmosphere and good music are overshadowed by how loud they have the music. This would be a go to place for us (it was for a while), but its so loud you cant carry on a conversation. At our last meal, we had to point to what we wanted on the menu, as our waiter couldnt hear us over the music. And it was a single guy on stage playing an acoustic guitar. In general, weve liked the music... but they simply cant seem to put someone on stage without cranking up the volume... its just way to overbearing for a building that size. So many times in the past few months weve walked up to the door to go in and have dinner, only to turn around because we can hear the music before even opening the door to go in...
