Plenty of screens for all the movies to show (I think theres 11 or 12). I typically catch evening films and will see the owner/manager and is always friendly has given free tickets to me. A wide range of food and drinks to buy which are a little expensive but I understand theatres are dying business. Free parking and clean environment for the most part.

A great local theater, good prices, cheaper than big theaters. It is a little chilly sometimes, make sure to wear layers when you go. There is a small arcade also and a picture booth, and many times they give away movie posters! They also make awesome gift bags to purchase that include movie tickets, popcorn, soda, and candy! I think there 9 theaters, and the employees are the best!!

Best movie theatre ever. Where else can you go in the capital district, get 2 adult movie tickets a large popcorn and 2 drinks for nearly the price of 1 movie ticket elsewhere. I always try to go to this theater when I can, and I dont live very close. Shout out to the owner for always being on the front lines with his employees.

I come here often since its local and the prices are lower. I watched a movie there today and became quite annoyed. About 10 minutes into the film, a quarter of the screen shifted to the wall. I told one of the employees about it, and they said they would check it out. About 10 minutes later everything shut off. It was pitch black. Nobody decided to come in and let us know what was going on. About 15 minutes went by with them trying to fix it. Finally, the movie came back on ahead of where it was. The screen was still messed up. The employee told us nobody knew how to fix it and that was that. Had my daughter and friend not been in another movie there, I would have left then. I dont blame the employee; however management there should have someone there who knows how to operate the screens. Thankfully the movie was good but the experience, not so much.

I let my 14 year old go all the time with his friends and they like going there. I guess their experience is been great. They love the movies they show.

Great, local movie Theater. Smaller, more intiment setting. Great place to go and catch a movie with your kids or significant others. Respectable staff and owner. Typical high prices on commodities like candy, drinks, and popcorn, but what movie theater dont have high prices on these items, lol. Overall a great venue to relax and enjoy a movie.

It is with much regret that Emerald Cinemas does not deserve even one star. If any rating is deserved, it would be in the negative.The place is a filthy, dusty, mold smelling mess!The seats need to be burned, along with the dust encrusted drapes!The floor should be completely sanitized and then ripped out.The party I was with for the showing of Crazy Rich Asians on Thursday night each had to try at least 3 seats each before finding one that would suffice for a 2 hour movie. It was most annoying.To summarize our visit. It was horrible.This facility needs a complete make over.Hopefully this will happen sooner rather than later.Next movie I see, will NOT be here!

We had our company corporate party at Emerald Cinemas for the Premier of the new Star Wars Movie. Upon arrival the staff had buckets of popcorn and sodas ready for us (I thought this was a nice touch and saved time). They escorted us into our private showing and gave us our choice of seats. The movie was great and the service was excellent. I have to say, the best popcorn ive ever had! Emerald Cinemas is an affordable and fun local theater with a WONDERFUL staff. Bruce the owner would bend over backwards to make their customers happy. I was very impressed and would go back anytime! If you are in Amsterdam you need to check it out!

I love this place! Its never over crowded, or noisy. The owner is SUPER cool, always speaks, seems genuinely interested in whatever convo you may have for him. My husbands drain company did a few jobs there before, and he (my husband ) told me how cool of a guy he was before we actually started going to this theater and I didnt believe him, because lets face it, people arent typically that nice anymore.But after our first visit, I was beyond impressed!

Great place to watch great digitally enhanced movies. Theyre matinees are reasonably priced. Theyve got movie packs that can b purchased, if you do the math this this the best way to go because its a great bargain at a low price for whats in the package.

This is a great theater. It doesnt have some of the frills of a bigger venue, but it is clean, comfortable, and not the least bit crowded. The thing prompting me to leave a 5-star review is the friendliness of the owner and staff.Last night, I decided to use up a coupon I had received for donating blood from the red cross. I wasnt sure if it had been used already, or it expired, so I called Emerald Cinemas to inquire. I was patched through to the owner, who told me if the certificate wasnt valid, he would comp the ticket for me personally. That was completely unexpected, and I didnt even hint at wanting any kind of accommodation in our 5 minute conversation. Yet, without any prompting whatsoever, he went well above what he needed to, to be sure I was happy.Every time I see the owner, I see him greeting customers, and having genuine, friendly conversations with everyone he sees. Everyone I know who knows him personally has nothing but kind things to say about him, and last night wasnt the first time Ive personally seen him go out of his way to make his customers happy. The same goes for the staff, who are pleasant, get paid a fair wage (above minimum), and seem happy and comfortable at their jobs.I also cant speak enough about how nice it is to go out to see a movie without the theater being completely packed. Its almost like a private showing, which has a real appeal.Ive been going to Emerald for movies almost exclusively the last few years, and I only just realized that Id be doing that even if it werent local. The atmosphere and attentiveness are really refreshing, and Im happy to recommend them to anyone looking for a new theater to try.

These people are hilarious with the whole feels like the 70s and its so old you can still smell the smoke from when people could smoke in theaters - it hasnt been there that long, folks.MAYBE 20 years - maximum. But I seriously dont even think it was that long.Anyway - while I do feel like it could use some sprucing up - some of the seats are wonky, plus theres a lot of dust, and the sound system isnt always perfect... these people truly care about you having a great movie experience.When I brought my daughter to try a real cinema experience for the first time, she wasnt quite 3 years old. We paid for the tickets, bought the popcorn and everything, full works. About 15 minutes into it, she was whining and wanting it to be over - I had to leave because I didnt want to disturb the other movie goers.As we walked out and headed for the door, the owner stopped me and asked if everything was alright. I explained the situation and he told me to hold on a moment. He came back with two movie passes and said that we should try again when shes a little older.Well, we did. And now, going to the movies is one of her most favorite things ever, and she ALWAYS wants to go to Emerald because she loves the arcade games and the popcorn (theyre a tie, she said).Its not bougie. Its not super spotless. Its not perfect. But its still fun for my kiddo and its home. :) As long as theyre here and dont go too far downhill, well keep going.

Overall, this movie theater is a good place to take the family. There are several lines available so there is really no wait time to get tickets or refreshments. Interaction with the staff has been pleasant. The popcorn is a bit salty at times and could be a little hotter. Maybe an update of the arcade games too. I have been there several times and would go again.

I went to this theater for the first time earlier this year and I really like it. The cup holder placements are great, the floors are a lot cleaner than the Johnstown theater. I love the large screen and the seats have more leg room which is great. I like the paying with cash discount. For just .50 cents more I get to sit in a bigger theater and the seats are more comfortable as well. I only gave it 4 stars because its not perfect, but definitely better than the Johnstown one.

Emeralds is a nice, smaller movie theater. Its seats are more than adequate for watching movies and the staff has also been nice. Not too expensive, either. Popcorn is top notch.

This is a very old outdated theater extremely dusty both on walls and on the light fixtures, the floors are in rough shape, seating is very uncomfortable. Someone should really breath new life into this place and make it worth the money you spend.

Bruce the owner is an unusually congenial host who always goes out of his way to make one feel welcomed. the negative reviews below are simply not true except for the fact that one seat in one theater is in fact broken. it is a very simple matter to not sit in it. the person who wrote that review is obviously too dumb to move to an unbroken seat and would rather complain.

Quiet theater; decent selection of snacks, could use a cleaning

Decent experience, the only downside was that our seats were filthy. They had what looked to be dried chocolate smeared all over them and napkins/wrappers all over the place. Hopefully we just caught them at a bad time!

The theater is dirty, if the seats are not broke they ate very uncomfortable. Very cold inside the theater. Bathrooms are filthy. Because the staff is friendly that is no excuse to give this. A good rating.theater any more than one star. As far as the prices still 9 dollars a ticket not a bargan.

My husband and I wanted to see the Computer with Liam Neeson and it was hardly anywhere so we ended up at the Emerald Cinema in Amsterdam, just a little farther than others theaters. It was not crowded, everyone was nice and we got right in. The thing I really liked was that the seats, at least ours, were much more comfortable than any if the new theaters!

The movie we saw was excellent and a new release. It was a matinee and as such I was shocked to see the state of the bathrooms. The theatre was not dirty that I could see, but it is a good business practice to clean the restrooms at the beginning or end of business everyday. This was clearly not the case.

The cinema is nice. The snack prices are ridiculous! $6 for popcorn... $6 for a cup of soda... Come on!

Owner is very friendly and welcoming. They actually respond to viewer requests about what movies to book. Wife and I have gone frequently for many years and always had a good time.

Great prices, fresh popcorn, the inside makes you feel like its the 70s old, and you can still smell when you where able to smoke at the movies. I will say, cute girls and the usher is the politics I have ever meet.

Older theater in ok shape never any crowds usually I am the only one in the theater when I go see a movie . The snacks are fairly priced compared to other theaters.

The movie we saw was great quality but the theater itself was dirty. Several seats in our row were broken. The theater could use some updating as could the lobby and the rest rooms. The staff were all very young and more interested in laughing and filling around than anything else.

Speakers in the theater were broken and the loud parts of the movie sounded terrible... Generally not too clean, stains on the walls... Fruit flies in the bathroom.. Would not recommend this place if u have other options

This is a wonderful theater, me and my friends and family have been going there for years and the owner is extremely kind. EXTREMELY. They have great popcorn and a wide selection of food from cotton candy to expressio! This is a overall great theater. My only complaint is the theater is not the cleanest but not as close to as bad as some of these negative comments. Wonderfull theater and wonderful staff, defiantly would recommend it!!!

The theater stunk so bad, it was like warm dirty sock smell. Gross sticky floors too. My son had stomach problems that night, coincidence? I dont think so! This place needs air circulation. Been there, done that, See Ya, Dont Want to Be Ya, Adios! Never to Return!!!!

Theatres are always dirty. Concession stand is always slow and has no problem selling yesterdays popcorn. The video quality is poor and the sound is ok, if its not too loud. I avoid this place and drive 25 miles to Saratoga to do so... Ok place for kids movies.

My husband and I went to see a movie and found the owner and the staff to be great. What makes me give a two is that went my husband got home his entire back was covered with bites. All over his back. I dont know if it was fleas or bed bugs, but we never went back. I feel bad because the owner is so nice. But this theater is dirty and bug infested. Ugh.

I have been to this theater many times and everytime I go no matter which theater I am in I find broken seats. The ones that arent broken are uncomfortable. The bathrooms are always a mess and the screens are small. Sadly this is the only theater close otherwise I wouldnt go.

Inexpensive ticket prices, but the snacks are NOT. The screens and the rooms that they are in are small, some of the speakers crackle, and the seats are Horrendous. Some of them are broken, and the cushions are practically non existent so by movie end you cant wait to get out of there. Okay to take the kids for a weekend matinee, but if there is a movie franchise you love, go see it at the Bowtie in Schenectady, or Regal in Colonie Center.

Popcorn was burned, stale, & cold.Requested fresh popcorn & was told to come back in 10 minutes by teenagers working there.... then they gave me the same cold, stale, burned popcorn!Multiple size mediums.... total waste of money as it was thrown out.The week prior they were seen getting old popcorn already made and dumping it in with the new popcorn & mixing it up!!!!!!

This movie theater is beyond disgusting. The walls literally have hair on them from never being dusted. The movie started 10 minutes late, wait, let me rephrase that, the Previews started 10 minutes late and lasted for 40 minutes. Literally 40 minutes of previews. My chair was broken. I watched the entire movie in fear of the ceiling collapsing. There were tiles right over my head that were disgustingly brown about to drip tetnus on my head. Computers went down when they tried to sell us our tickets. The bathrooms were disgusting. My feet stuck to the CARPET. Awful awful rundown disgusting place. Id rather drive 15 minutes and pay more for Bow Tie cinemas in schenectady than ever give that place my money again. The people who gave this dump 5 stars probably either work for the place, friends with the owner, blind, or have lost their sense of smell.
