Great hike, and great views at the peak. During the pandemic most visitors are using masks and are considerate towards others. The problem is the park service isnt caring for the trails the way they should...or maybe not at all. There are several fallen trees across the trails causing visitors to deviate around them. Today I twisted my ankle in a hole hidden under the leaves while going around one of these trees. Im fine but this could have been a bad situation. Ive been to several Massachusetts parks this year where fallen trees were taken care of immediately. These trees have been crossing the trails for weeks, maybe months? Not sure why the park service is ignoring the trails but its not smart. Take care here and go slow if you have to deviate from the trail.

A nice hike not far away. Diverse forests and a great view make this a great place for a short or all day hike. The parking is free and the trails are well marked. Rest rooms available also. It can get busy on weekends and parking is limited.

A great ridgeline trail with several accesses by road and a number of trails that go up to the ridgeline trail. The western terminus is Skinner State Park which has a nicely preserved hotel from the 1800s. The hotel (which you can drive up to) has a wrap-around deck with awesome views of the the Connecticut River Valley and the east side of the Berkshires. Bathrooms. Picnic facilities. To the south you can see Springfield, MA and Hartford, CT.

From star to Mt. Norwottuck and back was a moderate 3.2 mile hike with a couple steep inclines. There is a beautiful view of Amherst, Sunderland, and Hadley at the top. Dont be afraid to snoop around at the top to find every available outlook.

Pleasant hike with good elevation gain and good views! Visited in mid-December (but wasn’t snowy). There seemed to be a few trails to choose from, we took one from the visitor center to mt. Norwottuck that was a loop. Even though the visitor center was closed, there were portable bathrooms still available. Hike was steep in some places but the ascent was quick (and worth it!). Would come back here again, maybe in warmer weather, to see some green or foliage!

The trails here are absolutely stunning and very challenging, but sadly the trails at the time that we went were totally iced over and made it impossible to scale Bare mountain. However, we are going back soon because we want to conquer the trail! My friend sustained minor injuries on the trail that ended up needing stitches, and this was due to the ice and rocks. I recommend this area for people who are looking for a challenge. The views are worth it!

Mt Toby is a beautiful summit. I wish I could have explored more but alas it’s covid season. The one hike I completed in the fall will have to suffice for now. Trails are very well maintained. It appeared that there may sometimes be more intense water hazards than I experienced. Parking is really slim but often available.

Not for the more casual of hikers. I went expecting an easy to medium hike and ended up experiencing something like never before.traveling on the white trail of course I had seen alot of great views of the beautiful mountain. the way up and back took about 4 hours but was well worth it. will be returning with better shoes and more water haha.

Nice hiking trails with good wooded views. It takes a while of hiking for the sounds of the busy road to disappear and for sounds of the power plant next door to go away. Small pond and brook not too far from the trails. Parking is mostly shaded on asphalt.

Great hiking area with a variety of trail levels. Trails are well marked. Even though parking lot was full, trails were not crowded. Visitor center is closed for renovations but there are porta-potties in back. We never figured out how to get to summit but will be back for the views. Highly recommended!

The Holyoke trail is a difficult one. At least for me. The total trail is about 8 miles (round trip). For the Mount Hitchcock its 1.5 miles from Notch visitors center. But the views are worth the hike. I believe the total hike would take around 7-8 hours.

Review №51

Hiking here is great overall. Mostly strenuous trails- lots of ups and downs, so bring good shoes and plenty of water. Only frustrating thing I found was that the trails are not as clearly marked as they could be. The paint marks on trees are spread apart far, and the number signs are not easy to see unless you are facing them correctly. Furthermore, a lot of the marks and signs are at junction points with no indication of which way (left or right) is the correct way. I think there should be more paint marks throughout, and the trees that have numbers should be painted with a stripe all the way around to be easy to find from any angle. Make sure you bring a map along for the hike!

This is a beautiful, peaceful location for hiking. Several trails makes it easy to find a simple walking trail or difficult hiking trail and all sorts in between. Once you reach the summits of more difficult trails youre rewarded with gorgeous Vistas of the Pioneer Valley. A wonderful place for relaxation and exercise. Higley recommended.

Required several hours and a locals knowledge to understand and navigate the largely unmarked and unmaintained trail network. However the reward for exploring these trails is either naturally rolling flowing doubletrack, intermediate single, or a technical workout.

Scenic, well-marked hiking trails stretching from Belchertown near Quabbin Reservoir to Mt. Holyoke overlooking the Connecticut River. The ridge route, part of the 114-mile Metacomet-Monadnock Trail, takes hikers over two summits in the eastern section and over the Seven Sisters summits ending atop Mt. Holyoke in the west. Look for the legendary horse caves, Rattlesnake Knob and the Notch visitors center along the way. A through hike is challenging, but picnickers and dog-walkers can enjoy parts of the trail, too.
