Small, but Mead is beautiful. I was a Five College student, so I used to sometimes visit Mead before or after class if I had free time to linger on the Amherst campus. I also liked Beneski Museum of Natural History at Amherst also. but Smith College Museum of Art was my favorite of the college museums overall.
Its an exquisite place to unwind. It happened that when I visited this small-yet-wonderful museum twice, it was raining. The museum is a lovely shelter from the rain. Love the European paintings especially Thomas Coles.
Excellent museum and free!
5 stars for a small museum with a nice collection featuring a Monet
Small, but definitely worth a visit. Completely free with some wonderful art, more impressive than the majority of college art galleries. Works by Monet, Moore and Cole among many other household names. This is a must do, if you are a local or just passing through
Its cool
More like a gallery than a museum. A few temporary exhibitions, little permanent, and much less than I expected given the age and prestige of the college.
A great time, varied collection.
Very small. Your visit will depend heavily on whatever the special exhibition is at the time. Not worth a special trip, but worth a visit if you’re nearby.
Love the art here. Just the right size to not be overwhelming, and enjoy everything.
Although the Mead Art museum has a beautiful collection of art, I felt the experience was greatly diminished by the security guards following you around every five minutes (no joke). And this is going in well-dressed and behaved.
Small but well curated and free!
Small but wonderful. Free admission. Great pieces.
Nice quiet with good rotating exhibits
Great collection, great exhibits, and its free!
Very small exhibit about women.
A must visit when in Amherst.
Beautiful and free
