Well maintained local historical site that was once a part of the Underground Railroad Open on select weekends and by appointment. Well worth a visit. Special programs seasonally
The house like many from its time period serves as a reminder and academic center for learning about slavery in the US and the struggles that many famlies, and communities, went through fighting to overthrow it. The people here are dedicated to preserving the past knowledge of that time period.
Loved the place very nicely maintained great place to take the kids to learn Alliance History. The tour was great and Professor Davis was a very informative tour guide. I recommend this to everyone interested in this town history.
Attended a Hands on History with 2 homeschooled 10-11 yr olds, & thoroughly enjoyed the experience myself. The staff are both knowledgeble & talented. Very engaging with the kids.
Interesting, but would have been nice if someone was there to answer questions. The posted information said nothing about its role in the Underground Railroad.
Open the first full weekend of each month, March through November, Saturday from 10 am to Noon and Sunday from 1 - 3 pm. Also open daily during Carnation Festival. Oldest brick home in Alliance was host to fellow Abolitionists as well as fugitive slaves prior to the Civil War.
