A pleasant collection of paintings, sculpture, and artifacts. Representations range from religious icons to fine art to contemporary and modern art. Well worth a visit. Well stocked museum shop offers souvenirs by category, jewelry, and childrens books. Participates in the North American Reciprocal Program of museums. Five spaces of free parking for visitors.

Wow! What a treasure trove of beautiful art and delight this place is. We are so very fortunate to have collections of some of the worlds finest art right here in our little town. I have yet to make it here when the cafe is open but the gift shop is pretty nifty. The changing exhibits are fascinating and open up a whole new world of looking at art and expression. I love this place.

The family went here on Sunday when its free entry. I just want to make it clear that we are not huge fans of art history but we figured this would be nice to do with the kids and it gets us out of the house. The selection of art was ok. I wish there was more, a lot more. For how much space they have they can definitely offer more to look at and read about. If we would have paid I would have been disappointed. They did have a exhibit for toddlers to paint, use chalk, build things, solve puzzles, etc and that was very nice.To summarize, if we visit this place again it will be on Sunday when it is free.

Found this museum through FB and road tripped there with friends. The museum currently has a collection of old time Hollywood costumes that was amazing. Theres also a library there that Frank Lloyd Wright designed for friends. Theres only 3 floors but we managed to spend over 3 hours there. The gift shop is nice and theres a small cafe. Only downside is parking. Youll probably end up feeding a meter. The staff are exceptionally friendly and helpful. We really enjoyed our visit.

This center city museum offers local art, a Frank Lloyd Wright library, oriental art and special exhibits. Membership is $45 for a single and $35 for seniors. Membership includes discounts at local merchants. Only two negatives about this place. The cafe is not open on Sunday. Second, the gift shop is outrageously expensive.Parking in this area is difficult. Look up parking facilities before you go.

One of the best features was the kids playroom which was rather large and well furnished with books, activities, multiple family bathrooms, sofas, comfy chairs, a large bronze turtle for climbing on, and an art studio (sponsored by Crayola) - all an unexpected treat. The museum also had a treasure hunt teaching kids to observe and comment on the art (the awarded treasure was cool modeling clay), as well as a passport/stamp program. They really make a determined effort to be child- and family- friendly which we appreciated. The playroom also had tote bags with activities the kids could do in the galleries too - very thoughtful.

As a first time visitor to the museum, I was satisfied and hope to visit again when possible. The now concluded special exhibit of Japanese Katagami stencil art was small but very interesting. It is unclear to me how often art would be rotated from display. For the most part the area seemed well laid out, and had plenty to view and learn about including local artists.I am still fond of sending postcards and I hope the museum store can get better ones to sell. If there were cards of art from AAMs own collection instead of reused from the NY Met, or even one of the attractive museum building.

I attended a trivia night at the Allentown Art Museum and would highly recommend it. The Social Still was there with specialty cocktails, setting a nice, pleasant tone for the evening. The trivia questions were hard, but the staff and other participants were fun and friendly. Id definitely do this again. Hope to see more events like this at the museum. The only difficulty I had was parking. Make sure you have change! Not all the meters accept cards and the app needs a $20 initial deposit. The museum staff were able to give me change in exchange for a five, so I didnt have to relocate my car.

Many might see sports and the art world as being worlds apart- one discipline defined by muscle, the other by intellect. In reality, they have more in common than you might think. Much more.We are demonstrating that this summer as we present Who Shot Sports: A Photographic History, 1843 to the Present along with complementary exhibitions and programs to stimulate conversation, reflection and understanding about these not-so-disparate disciplines. The show, curated by Photographic historian Gail Buckland and organized by the BrooklynMuseum, features nearly 200 photographs from a wide array of sports around the globe, exposing not only the physical prowess of athletes but universal themes such as aesthetic beauty, teamwork and raw human emotion.

Every time I visit the Allentown Art Museum, be it with friends, young children, or by myself, the experience is superb! It seems that the museums administrators and managers thought of everything - how to make it affordable for all, where to store coats and purses during the visit, and how to keep the exhibits updated and interesting. There are unique artistic benches everywhere if you feel like resting. The staff are always courteous and helpful. The e-mails I get from the museum are well-organized, informative, and sent at very reasonable interval. I always have this feeling that the Allentown Art Museum is in business to speread art and culture and not to make maximum profit from the visitors (like so many other places). I absolutely love it!!!

Im going to give it 3 stars, not because its not a nice museum, it is. Its laid out nicely, the exhibits were what Id expect there nothing mind blowing. Not much interactive like the reading museum. My biggest issue is they are a bit stuffy. We basically had security (im assuming) following us around which was annoying. They werent rude but still I was trying to enjoy the museum with my adult daughter and It was a little frustrating to have someone kind of in your face at every turn. They have a no book bag rule, and she carries a bag thats similar to a book bag style, ....im not sure the reason for the rule but it was also a little obnoxious to have to carry it in our hand because we were trying to take pictures. Also some of the exhibits were not able to be photographed, little things but they take away from the experience. It was not a 5 star museum, The MOMA is a 5 star museum. Reading I gave 4 stars but this one is a 3, the rules and some staff take away from the overall experience. You dont get that many visitors, perhaps loosen the apron strings and let people browse.
