Cool space for Artists to create and show/ sell their wares. 3 floors of lots of different artists, using different media for mostly visual art, jewelry, weaving. Not any sound, vibrational or healing modalities. Pretty neat space, unusual. I bought some reasonably-priced art, despite some art being priced in my humble opinion...really quite steep. But I am not any kind of art collector.

This space is worth the visit, so much more than a “museum” getting to interact with the actual artist is the best part of the experience! ️

Wandered into the building thinking it was mostly museum to be surprised with the art! Several were closed as those artists were reducing the spread. All open shops had signs and hand sanitizer. The building overall required masks. One thing I liked were the stalks had enough space for the artists to work, too. So you could see them into he creating phase. It also seemed like many fo the stalls were run but he artists themselves, so you could have discussions. On the top floor, there is an archeology museum with very knowledgeable and enthusiastic staff. Would definitely go again!

When all weapons are turned to art we will have peace. I love that they turned this old torpedo factory into a place for artists to work and show off their work. Theres a wide variety of art and most of its for sale. The artists are really friendly! They love talking about their pieces and inspiration but they also give you space, which I really respected.

Love that this place is Free!! A nice place to walk around, enjoy art, interact with local artists, and even find new art for your home! More communities around the USA need a facility like this. The urban industrial vibe of the building attracts people of all ages and the art applies to all. I love the interactive exhibits that can attract to children. What makes this place most unique however, is that most artists are located in house. You can easily talk to them about their work. It makes purchasing it much more tempting!

Classic example of gentrification and art market replacing the dying manufacturing. Interesting... I mean very interesting to see and great place to purchase over priced art work but with gentrification some suckers gotta pay for artist to make a fortune and hedge themselves from the inflation by gentrification. However well maintained and hassle free environment alone should entice your visit and appreciate some art works you won’t see otherwise.

Great place to read about the history of how the factory was use during the war and after. The art galleries and little shops are nice to browse and buy handmade items. During the Christmas holiday, there is usually a little band that play wonderful Christmas music. Thus is such a great location right on the Old Town pier with beautiful views of the Potomac River.

There you will find a mix of a lot of kind of arts from paints, passing through metal, wood, rock and to scupture of animals and paper. My first stop at the Torpedo Factory is always the Scope Gallery. For ceramic art, the variety and quality are mind boggling. Prices range from very affordable on up. For years I was drawn to the work of Bev Andrews. As well as exhibiting at Scope, she now shares a studio with watercolor artist Rachel Collins on the third floor (studio 342). Its worth seeking it out if you want to get something special. Bev is always experimenting with new shapes and colors and glazes. Prices are amazingly affordable for such beautiful and unique works of art.

Artists set their own hours so some studios may not be open when you go. Almost all items for sale, and classes are offered through the Art League. The pic is from the back side near the water.

One of my favorite things to do in Old Town Alexandria. It was the first place I took guests when I lived there. There is always something need to see, and the opportunity to interact with the artists is fun & unique. There are also many quaint & interesting ships restaurants & bars in the vicinity. And if there is the man who plays the glass harp (or singing wine glasses), he had quite a repertoire and its full of fascinating information.A fantastic new art installation involving colored glass, mirrors & colored lights had been added just beside the torpedo factory. Its beautiful during the day, but by far much more interesting & appealing after dark!

What a unique space and fantastic repurposing of a building that used to create death! We were fortunate it was opened during our visit (double check hours if youre in town over a holiday weekend). I really enjoyed seeing the wide range of styles of the artists. None of the art I saw was what I would consider affordable for 50k or less income earners. IMO, still worth admiring.
