This is a very good museum off the beaten path in Albuquerque, NM. I provides a complete look at the history of Nuclear Science from its beginnings in the late 1800s to the present. It covers its first uses in medicine, to warfare, peaceful civilian uses, and advanced medicine. Of course it covers New Mexicos participation in the first nuclear bomb test at the White Sands, Trinity Site. You finally go outside and see up close the aircraft and missiles in history. Plan to spend at least 2 hours
This was awesome and worth going, it’s educational history learning and a lot of cool stuff to see and their gift store is great and their staff was awesome and you can take pictures and take a camera in and their restroom are clean and a lot of reading and videos too watch. So don’t mine bring my nephews here they love too see planes and war history .
Great museum. Make sure you have several hours available to get through all the exhibits. Not only does it go through the history of nuclear power, but also covers the socioeconomic climate during the various stages. Clean and new facility. The outdoor exhibit of aircraft and missiles is exceptional.
This museum has a ton of great history and information!! The entire history of nuclear science can be found here, among with the history of the folks who helped discover it. What really helps make this a great experience, is there are several nuclear engineers, or people who worked with nuclear reactors that have a great understanding of it, walking around explaining things and answering questions. I even enjoyed the stories these great people were able to tell from their experiences.
This is a fantastic museum! And if youre a local you get a small discount on your entry price. They have something for everyone here. They often have a movie running (you can call and check to see when they will run these). And they gave a gift shop as well as an area just for kids. The outdoor area is broad so make sure to wear sun protection.
They are still working on the outside exhibits. Inside is interesting and well presented. Worth the visit
Interesting place, cool stuff to read about. I enjoyed walking around the aircraft, rockets and bombs outside.
A very interesting museum with informative displays of nuclear history, weapons, delivery systems and energy applications. Theres facts for adults and interactive things for kids. The cool part is out back in the plane and missile area, full of real deactivated bombers, fighters, cannons and ICBMs on display. A great place to learn some history for a couple hours
Very cool history of WWII and the atom bomb. Wish there was more on the science side, but I didnt quite get to see everything there. Highly recommended. Very friendly staff as well :)
This museum is wildly fascinating. The Atomic Age is such an interesting part of our history in the U.S. and also world history. All of the mechanical devices in the displays make me giddy. It amazes me the ingenuity of human beings (especially when united).I went to a special event last night and signed up for a Family Membership on the spot. I had been considering it for over a year and Im so glad I did.
Excellent childrens game, interactive center for the entire family. Great displays and historical information. And a Thunderchief aircraft.
Years ago, before the 9/11 attacks, this facility was located on Kirtland Air Force Base in Albuquerque. Due to security concerns it had to be moved off base, and was relocated in Old Town. Due to visible, albeit inactive missiles, the aesthetics were not agreeable for the tourists nor the businesses. As a result, this new facility was built to house this amazing history of The Bomb, The Cold War, nuclear science, and peaceful applications of the technology. Not only do informative displays and exhibits abound, there is also a multitude of interactive challenges for all ages. A ticket costs $10 for a resident and $14 if youre not. The admission is good for 2 days and was needed. Plan on spending 4-8 hours to go through the entire building and the numerous military planes and missiles on display outside. To help with any questions, there are several friendly and knowledgeable staff members who will be very happy to share and answer any question you will have. This place is a gem.
What an amazing experience. So much historic content that we were not aware of.Great family fun and VERY educational. The staff is amazing and always willing to answer all your questions. A Must stop when in the Albuquerque area.
Very cool museum with tons of history. A great stop if you are interested, and if you geocache, there are two caches in the immediate area!
What a great job they have done with this museum. Kudos to all of the volunteers and everyone involved in this effort. Our family had a great time!
Very wonderful experience today at this one of a kind museum of nuclear energy. Great exhibits, huge volume of information, and an enjoyable history lesson. The men greeting guests at the front door are outstanding examples of our veterans and Patriots. Just wonderful people ! Make sure you go outside to see all the perfectly preserved airplanes. Simply awesome ! Take the time to watch the movies about our venerable B-52 Stratofortress planes. You will thank me later ! Dont forget to pick up a souvenir, and make a generous donation, so they can continue to serve the public with this excellent experience !
If you are a hurry buff and live to learn about the Genesis of atomic bombs and the dropping of bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki there is no better place. Lots of other war planes and hardware available. From the outside might look like a very ordinary and passable building but dont judge the book by its cover. Other more information and hands on experiments available for kids of all sizes and curiosities. A must visit place if you are in the area.
Extremely interesting and well curated museum. If youre curious about anything relating to nuclear technology and history, youll find it here. Jaw-dropping artifacts, recreations, dismantled and intact aircraft, and a theater. Really helpful staff and plenty for kids and veterans to see. A must see!
Very informational place to learn about history. My husband and I really learned at Lot while visiting here. Highly recommend a visit and the staff is super friendly and mostly veterans and volunteers.
Great museum that outlines the history if the nuclear age, from the origins of the discovery of radiation and the splitting of the atom, to the current nuclear age and progress. Very highly recommended.
Im a biology gal... Theres alot of history and technical science I couldnt be bothered reading about. If you like techy science and history and revert science, this is for you
Love this place. Stopped here on a whim and it was well worth the price. Staff was very informative on history of different pieces in the museum! Could easily spend 2 hours here. :)
Really cool look at history. The museum is well laid out and the staff was very friendly. T hey large displays outside too. Check it out!
Amazing. Few facts I knew that was not shared but many new facts I learned. You can learn the entire nuclear arms production history of the United States in detail. Little kids can explore interactive displays that are interesting and fun for all ages. The planes, cars, and rockets are so cool. You get up close and personal and feel the size. Does a good job quickly educating the history of the MAD arms race. Highly recommend.
This is a MUST SEE. There is also a museum in Las Vegas Nevada that is a must see. People were very helpful and friendly. Good visit...take your time. There is lots to read.
I loved my experience at The National Museum of Nuclear Science and History! I went by myself when they opened on Saturday morning, my library pass for free entrance in hand and only one other visitor in view. The greeters were friendly and efficient. They pointed me in the direction of a docent, who gave me an overview of how the museum was laid out. He was also walking around the whole time I explored, which made it super easy to ask questions and learn so much more than just what was on the signage. Each collection felt like I was immersed in relevant moments of history--it was emotional at points, from amusement to sorrow. I definitely recommend going here if you are visiting, or if youd just like to try something new on a Saturday morning.
Very informative and fun museum. Maybe this is because this is something that Ive been interested in some time. Despite my research and experience, I learned a lot. The staff was also very informative about the potential for nuclear power.
The Outside Area was Open to the Public for $5.00. I am a Senior so I mAy be quoting a Senior Discount, but I am not Sure. At least a Dozen Airplane to look at a d s out 6-7 missles also. Very Little about Nuclear energy outdoors, mostly about the Delivery Systems. Mostly about Delivery Systems.
Such a great place to visit. The history, the planes, the rockets, the bombs are all so amazing. I was very impressed and will definitely bring family and friends to visit.
I learned a lot about history and energy. It was pretty interesting!
Visited with someone I didnt like and still enjoyed it! Very clean, didnt feel apprehensive even with Covid going around. Make sure to bring your own hand sanitizer and youll be fine.
Very cool place to see. The staff is very friendly, helpful and informative.
Most things from the war history. If you are interest with the war and nuclear technology you must visit here.
This is an awesome place to spend a day. There are so many artifacts from the surrounding areas about nuclear history and weapons created here in the US. There is so much to read and learn about the process of developing nuclear energy, the devastation that it caused and the benefits that it gives us today in medicine. The price to get in is reasonable for any museum and their cute shop has lots of interesting souvenirs. The staff here are very friendly and many volunteers have worked with nuclear energy in the past giving them better insight and more knowledge that they are very happy to share with you!
Great museum, awesome staff. The museum has fun exhibitions for kids, and lots of cool information for nerds like me who love to read and learn all the details about everything. The inside exhibits are well presented. The staff have a great time adding to the story. I took a tour with a retired gentlemen who worked at Sandia National Laboratory and was a tribe of unclassified stories - I wonder what things he COULDNT tell me.The outdoor exhibits were my favorite. I love seeing the bombers, missiles and bombs.I love this place.
Amazing collection of historic pieces for the nuclear area. The exhibits from the developmental sites are amazing in both accuracy and creativity. There is also a lot of world war II specific history, to include Pearl Harbor and Japan. Not a bad way to spend an afternoon. Especially with the discounted admission rates they offer. But if much rather spend a whole day, which would be easy, taking my time inside and out. Three staff was great even coming out to give us a 15 min warning from closing. Gift shop is cool too. One thing we didnt get to go over too much was the nuclear energy exhibits which were under construction. But what we saw fun, educational and entertaining! A must go if youre in Albuquerque!
Amazingly friendly staff and very knowledgeable. You get to learn a lot either by yourself or asking the guides there!
Very educational if your interested in nuclear history and planes. I took my kids who loved the science of Ferro fluid and the planes outside. They also have a fun gift shop full of fun stuff!
Great museum, particularly for those with an interest in science. Its pretty dense, but very interesting!
The B52 is breathtakingly beautiful. You will be lost in its details and when you take a step back, you will find yourself wanting to go back to look at it once more.
Cool place to visit. Staff is very friendly. Interesting to see the history an the various items.
Little Al shows evidence of the short and savage life of a carnivorous Dinosaur, like Big Al, Little Al had a rough life, Little Al wouldve hunted Othneilia, Young Dryosaurus,
I had a fantastic time! I did not expect so much information to read about the history and there were lots of artifacts on display to look at. You can wander outside and look at full size planes and rockets, then continue inside and there are a lot of interactive displays and activities to try at the end of the museum tour (assuming you circle counter clockwise, or past to present).
Very nice.. lots to learn here and see.. a trip in both past present and future.
I had a great visit. The exhibitions tell a great story with many great artifacts and detailed information for those interested in the science behind nuclear technology.A couple of the volunteer Docents were happy to show us around and give us a lot of great (first-hand) experiences with the equipment, including the aircraft and the missiles/rockets.The aircraft and ICBMs on display were in fantastic shape and staged very neatly. In total, we spent a few hours there and feel theres more we can see the next time we are in the area.In short, its worth the visit and engsging for those of a wide range of ages (it looked like the kids there were enjoying the museum, as well)!
Nice concise history lesson with some cool artifacts. You can spend 1-3 hours here depending on how in depth you want to go.
This is an amazing museum relating to the advent, and use of nuclear energy. The museum is very well set up and has many unique displays. I highly recommend this little gem if you enjoy learning.
Very well done and many exhibits. They have real artifacts and equipment from the Manhattan project, nuclear weapon management (arming, launching, etc.), rocket/missile components, and much more. Lots of history and hands on learning. The aircraft and rockets are pristine.
Great museum following our nations nuclear history and future.Very unique in content, understandable for younger visitors, and especially impressive outdoor plane/missile/vehicle exhibit.
Very informative museum with a plethora of viewpoints about nuclear science, including scientific history and WWII, Los Alamos in New Mexico, the Manhattan Project, impacts on the public and pop culture, impacts on medicine, and a wide array of bombers and missiles outside.Very friendly and helpful staff. Great gift shop with fun collectibles and gift ideas. We enjoyed our time here!
This is a really fun place to visit in Albuquerque! There are some really great exhibits that also discuss different energy solutions. It also does a great job of listing the pros and cons of that more alternative energy productions would bring. They also have a McLaren (maybe original from Back to the Future) that’s really sweet! They even have a vest you can wear and take your picture next to it! It’s worth the visit!
A must stop for any fan of nuclear history or science. The premier place in the US to learn about this history. Amazing inventory of old missiles, planes, rockets, parts, etc. All sorts of information.
We were the youngest couple in the museum by 40 years, but that should change. This place is brand new and very cool and interactive. Most of the exhibits were kid friendly, and all were very informative. This was by far my favorite stop in Albuquerque during our visit. The outside exhibit didnt seem quite finished but it was just a bonus at the end, still very cool.
Im not a very interested in science but this museum offers something for everyone. It has all of the history and science of nuclear energy. It has replicas of Fat Man and Little Boy as well as aftermath pictures from those bombs. Then outside they have a wide variety of old Air Force planes which is very cool for everyone.
Oh my gosh!! We literally spent hours here inside and outside! And I still dont think that we saw everything we could see! The people who work there, the people who volunteer there, and even the people who came to visit there were all ...over the top nice, friendly, helpful, amazing folks! We cannot wait to come back for another visit! ️️️️
A very informative and fun science museum! The staff were very friendly and love engaging enough guests! We enjoyed the hands on exhibits that went beyond the scope of nuclear and covered mechanical engineering too! I would bring my kids here to introduce them to a world of science!
I had my first visit here today and it was so fun! I’ve been to all the other museums in town except for for this one. It was nice going on Thursday afternoon because no one was there so I had time to read about everything and play/experiment with the hands-on section without being bombarded by children (lol)The gift shop was really cool and the staff was really friendly also ! Overall, a really fun and cool experience ! Can’t wait to com back
While I was TDY to Kirtland AFB I had time to make it thru this museum. I recommend 1.5-2 hours for a good visit. They have planes outside too!
Loved it! So much history and cool scienty science stuff so fun.
For anyone who needs to feel the part of history that changed the world forever. Go.
Great museum, interesting history of the Manhattan project and Los Alamos. They also do their best to profile the different periods of the nuclear age along with the ups and downs. Wouldnt recommend it for younger non reading age children. They also have a range of decommissioned and replica warheads and missiles inside and outside.
Well maintained museum, some interesting and interactive exhibits. Good way to kill a few hours
The tour guide was very knowledgeable about each piece in the museum. The museum had fun and exciting facts about nuclear science. The gift shop had something for all ages including books, planes, science experiments, t-shirts, popcorn, and etc. The bathrooms were clean. (Mens, womens, & family rooms) Water fountains available.
This museum contains all of the information about the events that took place shortly before the two bombs were dropped in Japan in 1945. There are plenty of displays that show the full scale of the project undertaken by Roosevelt. There are also numerous replicas of all the warheads that were tested over Trinity, NM, that are placed outside along with the airplanes that were used to transport them.
I really enjoyed visiting this museum with my girls its located 5 minutes from Kirtland AFB and I found it poignant that in their display of women in nuclear science there was only one minority woman. Im all about giving my kids exceptional experiences and this was one. We got to see the inside of a ballistic missile. Id hoped to see a documentary on The Manhattan Project but it was too much for my 9 month infant. There are a lot of hands on activies.
This is a great museum that is well worth stopping at. There are many items you probably wont see in person anywhere else. If you have an interest in history and the nuclear age this is a must see.
Outstanding museum. Full of surprises. And honestly i was hooked before i even went inside. The outdoor area is awesome too.
This place has tons of history. I enjoy stopping in every time I visit. The volunteer staff address friendly and informative. Getting to see where we have come from is sobering but in the end they give us a look at a brighter future. I would recommend this place to anyone young and old.
It looks small and a little unassuming on the outside, but there is so much within and in the back yard that its beyond exciting. Its always been a goal to stop here because I love science. Its a great span of nuclear history even going into the modern uses of it today. It has a lot of World War and Cold War era items, but it also has pop culture nuclear items/replicas as well.Itll be great for adults and children. Dont miss a chance for their out door area either, because there are bomb casings as well as planes.
Amazing display of planes, missles, and bombs. Lots of history to absorb. Highly recommended
What a cool museums. One word: DeLorean. This is a fun place to spend a couple of hours. They have a read DeLorean, irradiated glassware, replica bombs and bomb shelters. So much to see. In the summer it is fun to walk around outside and look under the planes. They are real decommissioned bombers.
Really fascinating museum. The exhibits are really cool. Being a military plane geek, the large display of planes was really cool to read about and see in scale. I would recommend this to anyone in the area that would like to learn a little bit more about Nuclear Science and things like that.
Definitely cool to check out, even just to see one of the places Breaking Bad was filmed. But they have a great staff and fun little hands on activities for the kiddos to do.
Great way to spend the day in Albuquerque!
Amazing. We spent about 2.5 hours in this very informative and sobering museum. Probably take your kids when they are old enough to understand the weight of nuclear war.
I was really impressed with the sheer magnitude of information presented, the exhibits of so many actual vintage nuclear testing and design equipment, as well as the large number and size of the nuclear deployment designed missiles, rockets and aircraft on display. We also just happened to be there on the Friday afternoon of Oct 6th, 2017 at the time in which they held the dedication ceremony for the newly constructed full size replica of the 100ft tall Trinity Atom Bomb Test Tower upon which the very first atomic bomb was successfully tested on July 16, 1945 at the White Sands Missile Range.
Great place to learn about nuclear science and its history. Small but you could spend an hour or two there
I LOVE this museum! My favorite in the city. There is so much to learn here. Many interactive exhibits. Comfortable pricing. Many outside planes and items with a world of history. The great thing is learning about New Mexicos tie in all of this history. Good place for the family or even for a date.
Great museum, very well done. Covers the very interesting history of making the nuclear bomb and the Manhattan project through the cold war and up to present day uses of nuclear power. Worth the trip.
It was far more in-depth and beautiful yet tragic than I expected. There are many exhibits and pieces of equipment. I hope to come again at some point.
Loved the World War 2 museum in New Orleans. Very informative about the development of nuclear energy and their role in the Cold War
Outside displays need tobe more presentable. The land scaping needs more TLC. Inside museum is ok. Entrance fee is alittle bit higher than other museums that are kept in much better conditions.
Highly interesting. Its a very nice museum not overly large but very nicely laid out good displays good information sheds a lot of light on a very interesting part of our history.plan on going again and taking other family members who werent able to go this time
If you are a fan of the history of nuclear science, this museum is a must visit!I am a physicist and I thoroughly enjoyed my visit! You cover the history of nuclear science from the discovery of fission to the first atomic bomb, which led to the Cold War and today’s advancement in nuclear science. There is a section for kids that is interactive and
I live in DC and am surrounded by high quality museums at home. This museum is up there with the best of them. A great stop for any airplane, military, or history buff! I went about 8 years ago, and again this past weekend, and its clear they have continued adding new artifacts. The inside displays tell the stories of nuclear development, the use of the technology during WWII, as well as after. Outside is a large collection of military airplanes, ICBMs, a replica of the Trinity test stand, and more. I cannot recommend this museum enough!
Very informative tour. Pleasant staff. Expect to be here for couple of hours.
There are a lot of info in this museum. Nuclear, bomb-related history, airplanes that carried the missiles and bombs.
Very informative with great displays. The guides were also quite helpful.
Amazing to see a what we usually only read about. We must not allow history to be stamped out. We must learn from the past. Plan on spending some serious time here. Highly recommend knowing what has happened throughout history. From northern California (10/27/2019)
A gem in the middle of a highway. Lots to look at and remember Americans have great imaginations.
I have to say this was really well done. I would have preferred a bit more information about the Hanford Range in Washington. But overall the museum had a great deal of information and good displays on the military use of nuclear power. There is a nice interactive section for kids who may get bored with all the displays.
Some incredible exhibits outlining the history of atomic weaponry - the nuclear devices, the aircraft and missiles that carried them - even a complete Atomic Annie (the atomic cannon developed by the Army) on display. Knowledgeable staff to answer questions.
Very interesting place, it a must see. All sorts of ICBMs, bombers and thermonuclear bomb cases on display. The new display of the B29 and Trinity site tower recreation was well done. The gift shop had some really cool stuff as well. Glow in the dark Pu soap, socks with little boy on them, glow in the dark playing cards and small amounts of Trinitite for sale (incl. shirts and hats). Its a really cool place and you can learn much at the same time.
Great museum with detailed timelines and biographies. Very organized. Kid friendly experiments. Covers the making of the Sonic bomb to nuclear energy. Must see museum with historic planes outside.
Remember when we bombed cities flat when other nations attacked us? It was called WINNING wars, and youll learn a lot about how it was done at this museum. Too many museums are apologetic about winning WWII. The National Air & Space Museum says that the U.S. started the Pacific war, not Japan. Its astonishing to see how quickly this technology developed. Today it takes the military 5-10 years just to write a contract proposal. In 3.5 years the U.S. went from flat on its back after Pearl Harbor to bombing the daylights out of the Axis powers. That took physicists, engineers, and military men working together, making decisions quickly, and taking risks. Amen. This is the only museum where I contributed more money above and beyond the entrance fee.
We had a good time. I didnt plan on visiting, but Im happy I did. Bombs, fallout shelters, atomic science, aircraft and ballistic missile collections, this place is a trip. 50% museum of science and 50% museum of American neuroses.
The history of the science is very good, and they have something for everyone. Jets, planes, hands on exhibits, old replicas and artifacts. Very nice experience.
Very friendly and helpful staff. Lots of history. Good mix of reading and historical material. Nice outside displays. Recommended for American history and STEM insight.
An amazing museum where you can learn a lot about the atomic bombs, it’s pretty small but they have it all, I really like this place to much, you can buy some good souvenirs in their store and the people is so nice
