We always enjoy this park. We love to walk the loop path with our dog. They have a couple of different ponds...one of them is specifically just for ages 15 and younger to fish in! Very nice touch! Theres also a bridge you can stand on and feed the little birds right out of your hands.* PRO TIP: The best time of year to feed the birds is late summer and fall... they tend to get a little wild over the winter so in the spring time you need to be patient and get them tame again!

I love, love, love this park. The trails are fairly short but they all intersect at some point or another so you can make your hike however long you want. Theres lots of shaded paths. The kids will love the turtle pond.

Parked in the lot up from turtle pond. Shelter was busy 2 different groups used it while we hiked. Took the heron trail only a 1.1miles. Most of it from the main bridge was all raised boardwalk. It is impassable when the water is high. Trails splits at the bigger bridge ways. To the right all hiking trail on dirt.. look for the natural occurring coal seam that used to be mined.. walk straight the hike turns into mostly high wooden boardwalk 2 people wide The boardwalk comes out at the meadow. THE Park ranger enforced the one way walking by parking his truck on the path near the lake. So, once started we had to go one way. The colors are changing on the trees. Nice hike. There were a lot of people out that Sat. Nobody was wearing a mask this Saturday mornin.

What a great park! Beautiful to hike, part of the Fall Hiking Spree. Check out the free kids fishing lake, no licenses required! We also saw turtles, fish, a big woodchuck and a giant toad. Lots of wildlife. The Tuscarawas River is beautiful and the trail follows it.

Very simple trail, mostly flat, with some slight inclines. If youre looking for a challenge, this trail wont be for you. Good for weekend strolls with the family, or just a short adventure to clear your mind.

Another great Summit MetroPark! We were working on the Fall Hiking Spree and we selected the Redwing trail as we wanted to hike a trail with plenty of shade! It was a very hot (90 degrees) day and we werent prepared for a very long hike. The Tuscarawas area of Firestone MetroPark is where this trail is located. The trail is rated easy and is 1.1 miles long. It is mostly level with only one hill. In fact, if you wanted to bypass the hill you could. The hill is towards the end of the hike and instead of turning left, you could go straight and walk to the parking lot. The trail is very scenic and goes along the banks of the Tuscarawas River for a short distance. Little Turtle Pond is also along this tail. My son likes the boardwalk section the best. During the wet seasons, there is usually water under the boardwalk. The Tuscarawas area includes a shelter, sled hill and picnic areas. Most of the picnic tables are in shade. But they are spread out and some would take some walking to get to. In case you are carrying a large cooler.

Great place to go for an easy walk. Scenic, great to bird watch or catch some other critters at play. Ive seen several photographers here. Full loop is about 3 miles. Another path option is offered but sometimes flooded. Well maintained. Only portapotties available. Not everyone leashes their dogs.

One of my favorite parks in the Akron area! I love that Turtle Pond is for the young fishermen out there, adults can relax as they teach the craft! Not the parks fault, but my grandson found a booby trap of fishing line tied low across a trail so beware if you venture on one by the pond.

I dont normally follow the guided trail to avoid the canal part. Today I followed the one way signs. I passed quite a few people going the wrong way. I assume its bc there were no signs that informed park goers that was the wrong direction, and there was no way for them to see the signs that I followed, bc they dont have eyes on the back of their head.

Beautiful, peaceful hiking trails. Area is well kept and friendly. Plenty of photo opportunities. Mallard ducks common, friendly, whimsical, and often found swimming under the well constructed footbridge portion of the trail over the Tuscarawas River. I would have given it five stars if they upgraded restrooms and consider trail maintenance to reduce muddy conditions, especially after a winter melt and rain. For example, elevated boardwalks, mulching, or paving some areas were would be excellent! Still worth the hike if youre in the area.

Great place to go for a run or to bring the dog. There are a lot of wide open places and a few trails through the woods. The river often floods over the North end of the trail past the pond so just check the signs as you go. The sledding hill is great in the winter! Definitely the place to be on a snowy day. The place it kept clean and mowed regularly, havent had any bad encounters with ticks or pests. I think you can fish in the reservoir as well! There are a few pavilions to rent out and a very nice/large lodge to rent. A prefect place for a big party.

I love this metropark. What a treasure in the Akron area! I am a birder, and it is a beautiful location to enjoy nature. The river and race draw some really cool birds, especially during spring migration. Like most parks, however, lots of people use it for different reasons, which often conflict. Ill just get a bird in my camera lens and someone will walk past with a huge dog. Or people talk loudly so the birds fly. Also, the trails arent particularly accessible for someone with walking difficulties. Overall, though, this is a great spot!
