The staff was very attentive. My only dislike was the number of guests allowed in the bar areas without a mask. They should have required cocktail hour held outside. My stay was obviosly during Covid.
Great [place to stay if you are in Aiken. The owners and staff are super and the food amazing!!
Beautiful hotel! Its like taking a step back in time. Amazing architecture in this beautiful building. All I have a picture of is the meal we ate because when I was walking through the lobby, all I could do was take it in. Awesome!
My amazing mom and sisters planned a fabulous surprise wedding night getaway at The Willcox! That was both of our first time ever even in the building! I knew it was beautiful but no one could have prepared me for how much I would love that place! Everyone was very warm and welcoming, I couldnt stop looking around at the decor, we were given a glass of champagne as we checked in, and there was the most delicious food warm and waiting for us when we arrived, the room was gorgeous and smelled fantastic not just from food! We had the scallops which were cooked to perfection and a watermelon cucumber salad that was perfectly refreshing and easy to eat for a new brides knotted stomach! The bed was so comfortable I wanted to bring it home! We had breakfast in this beautiful dining area! I am still dreaming about their blueberry lemon French toast! Before we left to come home we were sitting in the rocking chairs on the front porch looking at the beautiful homes across the street my new husband mentioned how great it would be to just come across and dine there all of the time!
Excellent brunch. I had perfectly poached eggs on my eggs benedict. Have not gotten a bad meal
My husband and I enjoyed the Presidential Suite for two nights while we married in Aiken and hosted our wedding reception at The Willcox. We are from out of town and planned our events remotely. The hotel, food, ambiance, and staff were top-notched. Hats off to Katherine Gratham, events director, for making our poolside luncheon reception a joyful memory.Susan & Tom JusticePickens, SC
The old Wilcox is a nice hotel and a wonderful experience, however due to the Virus there is no ice machines, no ice bucket in the room, no drink glasses.........the pork selection at dinner had a lot of fatty, grisly parts to it....and for a one nights stay there was an additional $25 in tax.... ridiculous! Just the tax alone would make me think about every staying there again.
Great dine and chill option at the beautiful Wilcox Posh Hotel this weekend! Its been on my bucket list for a few yrs, so finally took the time to visit Aiken. Parking is no issue, wither valet or find on side of the street. Customer service was fine and fabulous. I didnt expect anything less from this historic establishment. I took a few pics outside and in or course for my memories. We decided to chill in the lobby for some drinks and dinner. We didnt need a reservation, but highly recommend it due to the popularity of the hotel. After 5pm the whole lobby was full and customers were arriving for dinner reservations. Thankfully we timed it just right! All our food and drinks came out in a timely manner. Presentation is everything to me, and they above my expectations! I truly see why they have great reviews. Everything was flawless from the parking, dinner, service, and out the door! The place is absolutely gorgeous!!!Yes and Yassssss, I shall return for more in the near future! This is a perfect StayCation for all. Aiken is known for its southern hospitality, they won a award in the Southern Living Magazine a few yrs back. A few historical sites were closed but I enjoyed my time in Aiken.
The restaurant at the Willcox is the perfect place for an elegant and pleasant evening. They dont just rely on their name and infrastructure; the food is absolutely delicious which adds to the experience.
A over the top experience. Felt human having the restaurant and bar open during this crazy time. The staff all acknowledged us making us feel special.
What a beautiful, historic, relaxing place to be. The breakfast was yummy. The staff were very attentive. The attention to detail is much appreciated. The history is rich. And, there is so much offered in Aiken and the surrounding area year-round. I hope I have another opportunity in the future to stay here.
Always a great place to drink, eat and catch up. Wonderful place to stay as well
The Total History and Tradition of The Property, and The Staff is OUTSTANDING!!!!!
Excellent hotel in a great location.Highly recommended!
Wonderful house salad with chicken and ginger dressing. Excellent service.
A wonderful piece of Aiken’s history!A very friendly and beautiful young hostess welcomed us Into the restaurant. She found us a perfect seat to eat lunch. The atmosphere is romantic. The food is incredible. So far, our favorite meal is the spaghetti with LARGE meatballs. The Wilcox has become one of our favorite local restaurants.
I loved visiting this place for the first time! Ive only just moved here since Thursday and this is a really amazing location. I will be revisiting soon. Thank you for the great service I received with the food and bar service. Thank you.
I rarely write reviews but in this case I felt I should. It is very sad to a once fine old hotel begin a March of neglect towards its demise. I know we all hear the excuse “due to the Covid” used by everyone and their Uncle but that’s not the case here, rather poor management. I found the staff arrogant and lacking in manners. Our room (311) threadbare carpeting, broken window panes, bathroom lighting so dim you needed a flashlight to shave. The food service was alright but I was expecting to wowed but the presentation and preparation. To my dismay I found both totally lacking with awful coffee. Waffle House serves a better breakfast.I will say the large wading pool was nice and probably the nicest part of the entire hotel. Too bad it is only four feet deep.
Food was excellent and really enjoyed their small patio area out back. Its a nice place with friendly staff, great atmosphere, and historic feel.
This place was amazing in the sense of its history. Its a page right out of the roaring 20s. I went in wearing nice pants and a button up and I felt like I wasnt dressed fancy enough. The upholstery is perfect and the ambiance is upper class. Definitely worth a visit if youre in town. Lots of history was made here too.
This is the most elegant and amazing place! Great food, good service, fabulous aesthetic and COVID SAFE!
The Wilcox is a charming inn with a lovely pool where you can sit and enjoy a beverage. They make one of the best mojitos I have ever had!
Food was good. Inside needs updating.
The food and service were spectacular. Our favorite place to eat in Aiken.
Went in with my husband for our anniversary. We didnt have a reservation but, were seated immediately. The waitress and kitchen staff moved heaven and high water to honor my custom meal request. The atmosphere was very nice. Although this is a fine dining Establishment, I never felt overwhelmed, judged, or out of place.Me and hubby Dont participate in the fine dining atmosphere. However, this was a great experience and we will definitely be back!
Great menu. Great food. Great and friendly staff.
A place like the (famous) Willcox should offer skilled and trained staff! It starts with the right handling off a good wine. Opening the bottle, not shaking while trying to open it.I dont want to repeat what I already wrote a long time ago. But we had a good wine from Italy. Thats it! Nothing more to say!
The service and atmosphere are always first class
The whole experience at The Willcox is awesome! Everything from the check-in to the room and its amenities to the restaurant and bar to the exceptional staff. Cant wait to go back!
Amazing date night restaurant. My fiancé and I traveled here from Augusta while on a weekend trip. All places in Augusta were closed due to a holiday and the corona virus. We called ahead and made reservations and I mentioned that my Ms’s was vegan after they asked for dining restrictions. So upon arriving I was very impressed by the class and charm that The Wilcox has. Also I stole on the pride that the hotel has as I saw the impressed look on my fiancé’s face when we pulled in. Anyways, when we walked in we were greeted by many well dressed and exceedingly professional workers. After ordering drinks and an appetizer we actually got a tour of the hotel from one of the woman up front which I revoked pending they aren’t too busy. The white table cloths and lit candles provided exactly the experience I wanted. The ambiance and history of the hotel gave me more than I could have hoped and proved for an absolutely incredible night. Now to the food. As I mentioned my fiancé is vegan and after notifying our waiter (a young gentlemen whose name escapes me) he coordinated with the house chef on his own accord to provide her with a custom vegan meal which was in her words “one of the best she’d ever had”My appetizer was a liver pâté with a thin layer of sweet jelly-ish stuff (not a food critic) served with homemade bread which was so incredibly rich and so so good. I ordered the lamb t-bone as my main dish. It was grilled medium rare and served on a bed a very fresh tasting bed of peas and beans along with fresh herbs. All in all the night was indescribable but saying nothing wouldn’t help out this amazing establishment any.
Went in after attending a parade to listen to Christmas carolers and have a warm drink before we continued walking. We ordered hot chocolate and our waitress brought us overpriced, room temperature Swiss Miss in a to go cup. Most certainly got the impression that we werent worth her time. Probably wont go back. It was my second time here and I have yet to see anything impressive.
Living in Aiken, this is such a staple for locals and part of the rich history. Coming to the bar is a favorite for a glass of wine to enjoy the ambience and just relax mid day has always been something Ive enjoyed, although I shouldnt have to hunt down a waitress for a drink, glass of water or an item on the menu. Its tiring.
Great atmosphere, the food and service was very good.Look forward to spending the night there later this year.
Great food, even though it feels like youre in a time warp
A one of a kind JEWEL located off the beaten path in beautiful Aiken South Carolina. This property has been wonderfully preserved. Handsome furnishings and decor add to the southern charm this place is known for. Fantastic jazz playing in the family room lounge and the on-premise restaurant was excellent. We will definitely share this sensational secret with our friends and family.
The Willcox Inn was amazing, everyone friendly and beyond accommodating. I was staying there because I was looking to move to Aiken from California, just meeting people at the bar whether for drinks or dinner help make my decision an easy one. Love Aiken. I plan on my moving forward with my plans of relocating. Thanks for the push. Dan
A beautiful historic hotel and the restaurant is fantastic! We enjoyed great service in this high end restaurant and hotel. Worth a trip
Parking perfect. Staff extremely nice and welcoming from front desk to bar to dining. Room was very comfortable and well appointed.
Great atmosphere and always great food.
Great service and wonderful food
The place is immaculate. The staff, courteous and friendly. The food amazing and decently priced. Steeped in history, every room you walk in is like a gallery. Acomodated for myself, wife and our Jack Russell, Tweezle. Even made him a grilled chicken breast to eat!Love this place, will definitely go again.
The Willcox is top notch all around. The hotel decor is sophisticated charm. The staff could not have been nicer every step of the way. Michelle at the front desk was the nicest woman. The bartender knew how to make a great drink. The restaurant was wonderful. They truly wanted our family to have the best stay and went out of their way to make sure that happened. They did not have a small bike for children when we wanted to go on a bike ride and the owners of the hotel went and purchased one just so my daughter could ride a bike. We will for sure be coming back and we highly recommend staying at the Willcox!
Beautiful room. Amazing ambiance. 5 star service. My most favorite place to stay in Aiken
After reading about the history and reputation of The Willcox, my husband and I decided to give it a try. We live in a small town outside of Lexington, and it takes us the same distance to go to downtown Columbia as it does downtown Aiken, and we love checking out Aiken for a change of scenery. Our first experience was AMAZING! As business owners who pay attention to details, and are in a service industry ourselves; our bar is set pretty high when it comes to impressions. We ended up sitting at the bar during happy hour and stayed for dinner. The bartenders and wait staff were very attentive and personal, and the food was outstanding. I loved the warm & cozy atmosphere and architectural details that can only be found in historical places this. The Willcox is a great gem to check out for those looking for a quaint place with lots of charm and an exceptional experience. I would highly recommend them, and we will definitely be back!
My First Time To Ever Go There. The Sunday Morning Brunch And The Food And Service Was Outstanding..
If you enjoy old hotel you will love the charm of this one. Totally redone however still a charming place.
The Wilcox is an experience, and if you have a couple of days I would encourage you to visit. They have an excellent restaurant in house, and some amazing bartenders who will not disappoint if you just go off menu and let them make you what you want. The rooms are clean, nice and comfortable. You will find them to be more traditional, designed more for you to enjoy your stay, rather than just being a place to sleep. If you are visiting Aiken, it is a short walk from the downtown strip with local food, shopping and drinks and they also offer complimentary bicycle use if you want to take a self-guided tour.Breakfast is delightful with a made to order menu available every morning.Take the time to slow down a little, and enjoy the experience that the Willcox offers.
We just went for dinner. Many choices, fairly expensive. Good waiters. Lovely bar. A favorite among townies.
The room was beautiful, the staff was great and the stay was quite enjoyable. Hope to do it again soon.
Contemporary food in an old world atmosphere. Exquisite entrees in a lovely old 19th century setting that at one time hosted such famous visitors as Franklin Roosevelt and Winston Churchill. In the atmosphere of the dining room and bar, you would not be surprised to look up and see a Vanderbilt or Harriman striding across the room. The food is American with southern and international touches. On a recent visit, their lamb shank and salmon were out of this world. The service was everything you expect of a dining room of this caliber and they participate in a Green Hospitality Alliance with a commitment to sustainability. The Willcox is so much more than a restaurant (hotel and spa!) but the dining room gets four stars from me.
Disappointed in the Willcox overall. The ambiance of the lobby, with its living room feel and the small bar area is very nice. Shout out to Kyle and Alli who were our servers during our stay. They were extremely nice, accommodating, and personable. Thats where it ends for me. This may sound petty but at $500 a night (2 night stay), my husband and I expected more. From a room condition standpoint we experienced 3 issues: my husband had to fix the toilet handle in our bathroom after it malfunctioned, the shower door did not close properly, and the air controller in our room did not function correctly. The experience that really turned us off was in the bar/lobby area on 12/28. Several folks were enjoying their evening, having drinks, and conversing. My husband and I noticed the manager for the hotel was ready to go as he stood by the hostess stand. He was sipping on wine himself, checking his phone, and ordering the staff around to clean up. At one point he announces last call and were closing. It was 10:45pm and there were multiple guests of the hotel enjoying their time watching the clemson vs. ohio st. game. Several guests looked around at each other with a look like, really? Not a great way to end the stay. Aiken is a really cool town but well probably check out another option for lodging next time.
Probably the most luxurious relaxed elegant hotel experience. I base mine on traveling for a living. Will never miss the opportunity to visit this special hotel.
The Wilcox is a beautiful historic building that feels like home. The staff are friendly and the food is great!
We went to the restaurant tonight and we ordered a “4mage” which we thought will be an assorted cheese platter. How was our surprise when they bring us a very small piece of cheese ! One piece of cheese for $15. Very expensive for one piece of cheese which was absolutely not what was described on the menu. It was supposed to be cow, sheep, goat cheese ... when you read this how you can imagine that you will be served only one piece of cheese ! They were absolutely no sheep or goat cheese in this cheese. We said something to the waiter but he didn’t try to please us with something else. This was totally over price for what it was, very disappointed about it and very disappointed with the fact that no act was done to make us happy. On the check out order was named under Gouda cheese which as nothing to do with what we have eaten. So the atmosphere was nice and cozy but they definitely don’t know what they are serving.
Great lunches. Imaginative, not too expensive. Good setvice!
I have spent two weekends at the Willcox and am looking forward to returning!I say its like staying at your rich aunts home(if I had a rich aunt) but not at all pretentious....just comfortable, welcoming & hospitable! The little touches like the library and having Vintage board games a available were awesome (we played Clue) Of course enjoying cocktails in the beautiful lobby while enjoying live music did not disappoint!!
I like the vibe and its really clean
The Wilcox is the quintessential Southern Inn. The staff couldnt be more helpful and pleasant. A very comfortable place.
My wife and I celebrated our 1 year anniversary at their amazing restaurant. The staff was very friendly and our waitress was very knowledgeable about the wine and dishes they served. The food was also great. We would definitely recommend the Willcox restaurant to anyone!
Excellent food & Service at the restaurant, all at a reasonable price.Ive dined there twice for lunch & both times have been fabulous. The lunch menu is broad & diverse with something for everyone.
Seasonal menu with fresh selections. Nice wines and champagnes by the glass or bottle. Great service!
Bread pudding for brunch was was amazing!
Actually had dinner here and it was delicious. The goat cheese cheesecake was heavenly.
The petite filet is AWESOME!
Went to an author round table event here and it was lovely. Fantastic staff, great atmosphere, beautiful surroundings.
Place was very fancy, wife was a little uncomfortable. Food was different but great
The room was great! Service was fantastic! Loved every minute of my stay!
Great food and atmosphere
Great place would eat again! Everyone who works there is so knowledgeable about the entire menu
Beautiful and comfy atmosphere. Great service. Excellent food.
Perfect place to relax and chill away from everything. Stay for at least two nights. Service is impeccable. Thank me later
Its the Wilcox. The place has a reputation for having the best food and service in town. Each time Ive been in they have not disappointed whether it be just a quick trip in for a bar snack, Sunday brunch, or a dinner on Friday night. Everything Ive had there has been awesome and well-presented. You definitely pay for what you get here, but its perfect for a special occasion. Brunch and bar snacks on the other hand are very affordable.
Great old Southern charm facility with great historical background. Sunday brunch is great, but you should always make reservations for any dining event, including brunch. Highly recommend for for a fine dining experience, bring some cash because it can get expensive, but worth every dollar.
Really nice, from the minute we walked in the door they made us feel like we were home. The Bar tender was a great and informative. He also makes great drinks. We had a wonderful meal. Pork rib eye, sweet potatoes and the soup of the day was a corn & green chili chowder. Do not miss the opportunity to to walk around and enjoy all The Will Cox has to offer... Thanks Tina!!
Our hometown treasure! Internationally known, welcoming, friendly, amazing service. No matter what meal, the food is delicious. Love the Wilcox!
The very best service, delightfully exquisite wine and beautiful prepared meals.I was Tempted to photograph my filet mignon but did not want to upset those less fortunate.Great food and atmosphere. A camera crew came in as our party was leaving and began capturing the service and beautiful people that were selected. Perhaps they were Models or local Aiken elite, not sure as we are from the Appalachians Mountains in North East Tennessee. I keep thinking we could use a little of the Wilcox Hotel and its dining experience back home. Everything was wonderful.
Excellent food. Nothing I can say about all of our food. Everyone enjoyed their meal. Will return!!
Superior service and hospitality, fantastic amenities and ambience. Will definitely stay again.
Local favorite! Fabulous food with old school ambiance...I feel like it hasnt changed much inside since the days of the Winter Colony. Dont hesitate to try if you are in town!!!
Fireplaces in rooms Love the lobbyStaff was excellent Restaurant was great
The service and food was delicious!
It was very nice great people great food great bar great vibe! Thank you
I waited until we had been there for Dinner and brunch to write this review. Dinner was very good and worth what we paid. Our appetizer of deep fried deviled eggs was delicious. My husband enjoyed his filet mignon. It was cooked perfectly. I had the risotto and enjoyed every bite. Brunch was okay. My Spanish omelet was flavorless and pretty gross to be frank. I was sad I had to pay for such a dish and hope they never serve it to anyone else. The drip coffee didnt come with a refill sadly. However, my husbands chicken and waffles was phenomenal. Tasting that perfection of a dish ensured we would come back for brunch.
We love The Wilcox! My husband surprised me with a spa experience and it was awesome! Thank you Jade and Kathetine, 5 stars for you two. Love the rooms, the food and all the staff!L. Thomas
We love this place. It is so warm and welcoming with great service and food.
Beautiful. Same people own Greystone in NC.
Great classic southern hospitality & gourmet food.
When for lunch. Absolutely great. Food is fantastic. Service is great. Just try the Wilcox you will enjoy the food and atmosphere.
What a wonderful experience! Beautiful atmosphere, great service, and the food was beyond anything Ive ever tasted. The live pianist really set the mood. Definitely worth the visit, and I highly recommend.
