This is a small zoo. However there are lots of interesting animals, reptiles and birds we had never seen at any of the many zoos we had visited in our travels. Super well taken care of. The cafe has really great burgers as well. We were there several hours.
This zoo is tiny but cute/fun. A family membership will set you back about $75-100 depending on the perks you want. You’re allowed to bring in your own drinks and food, which I recommend because the food is a bit pricey: $5-7 for your basic burger/hot dog combo. The animals are well taken care of. In order to feed to giraffes you pay $5 for 5 pieces of lettuce, it’s worth the $- the kiddos absolutely adored seeing the giraffes long black tongues reach for the lettuce. You could do this zoo in one long day but we did a small section- took our time and really enjoyed the experience. Most of the staff was delightful, we had one grumpy dude but he might have just been having a bad day. We can’t wait to go back! Also- the prairie dogs aren’t really fed pencils.... some kid (not mine) gave them pencils and the prairie dogs were going nuts over them. The staff got the pencils right after I snapped the photo.
The most enjoyable zoo to be relatively small. Compared to ones in bigger cities it lacks nothing. I was especially impressed by the grouping of various species of the same geological regions. Natural habitats, clean, beautiful and Texas friendly.
